Matunga FOB closed for public after cracks found
A foot over-bridge (FOB) connected to the Matunga railway station on the Central Railway has been shut for public after cracks were found in it, civic officials said. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) decided to close this FOB for people last week. "The Matunga (west) FOB connected to the railway station was shut for public use last week after cracks were found on it. BMC's bridge department will soon come out with an inspection report in this regard," a ward official said. Any decision regarding its repair or re-opening will be taken as per the report, he added. On July 3, a portion of Gokhale road over-bridge (ROB) had collapsed over the railway tracks at Andheri station, which left five people injured, including a 36-year-old woman who died few days later. Civilians killed, wounded in shelling on Yemen market: MSF
Three civilians were killed and nine wounded when a mortar shell hit a crowded market in southwestern Yemen, Doctors Without Borders (MSF) said today. The shell struck a market in Taiz, a city just inland from the Red Sea port of Mocha and under siege by Yemen's Huthi rebels, the non-profit said on Twitter. MSF did not say when the raid took place or give details on who was responsible. Allied with Iran, the northern Huthis are locked in a war against the government of President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi, who is backed by a powerful military alliance led by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. Nearly 10,000 people have been killed in the Yemen conflict since 2015, when Saudi Arabia and its allies joined the government's fight against the Huthis. More than 2,200 of them were children. The conflict has pushed the impoverished country to the brink of famine, triggering what the United Nations says is the world's worst single humanitarian crisis.
Akhilesh helps accident victims on Agra-Lucknow expressway
Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday helped accident victims lying in a pool of blood on Agra-Lucknow Expressway by getting them rushed to hospital in one of his convoy vehicles.The accident took place near Tala Sarai in Hasanganjarea in Unnao. Woman Amaranth pilgrim dies in Jammu, 18th batch leaves for Kashmir
A 61-year-old woman pilgrim from Maharashtra, who was injured in a road accident, died at a hospital here, while the 18th batch of "yatris" left Jammu today to join the annual Amarnath Yatra, officials said. The 60-day yatra to the cave shrine, located at an altitude of 3,880 metres in the south Kashmir Himalayas, began on the twin routes of Baltal in Ganderbal and Pahalgam in Anantnag district on June 28. Over two lakh pilgrims had paid their obeisance at the cave shrine till last evening. The "yatra" is scheduled to end on August 26. The woman pilgrim, identified as Gaya Bhai Kaile, was admitted to the GMC hospital after being hit by a vehicle near the Saraswati Dham railway station here on July 15. She succumbed to injuries last evening, the officials said. Trawler capsize: 19 fishermen still missing
Nineteen fishermen, who had gone missing in the Bay of Bengal since Tuesday, were yet to be traced even as a fishermen's association claimed to have located one body near an island today. The body was floating about 30 km from Dalhousie Island and 'FB Joy Kishan', the first trawler to capsize on Tuesday, was found nearby, according to West Bengal United Fishermen Association at Kakdwip. However, there was no official confirmation. A hovercraft and an airplane of the Coast Guard have been pressed into service to look for the missing persons. A motor launch of the police and six trawlers of the fishermen's association have also gone out into the sea for the rescue operation, a senior police officer said. The 19 fishermen had gone missing after three trawlers capsized in the Bay of Bengal, off Frazerganj in the Sundarban area of south Bengal on Tuesday.

A six-storey under-construction building fell on an adjacent building in Shah Beri village under the Bisrakh police station last night. The second building also collapsed under the impact. At least 12 labourers were in the under-construction building when the incident took place and all of them were feared trapped, Chief Fire Officer (CFO) Arun Kumar Singh said. He added that while two bodies were pulled out of the rubble late last night, another body was pulled out this morning. Two teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) were assisting the police personnel and fire-fighters in the ongoing rescue operations, the CFO said.
