A woman and her minor son were killed when the roof of a farm house collapsed due to heavy rain and storm in Moda Khera village here, the police said today. The family members were trying to save chickens kept in the farm house from rain water and storm when the wall collapsed yesterday. The victims were identified as Deepa (40) and her son Rattan (10). Deepa's second son Karan (8) was also injured in this incident, they said. The bodies of the deceased were handed over to family members after postmortem.
A 19-year-old student died when she jumped off the third floor of a college building here during a disaster management drill, following which a trainer was arrested for allegedly prodding her to take the leap, police said today. In a video of the incident, which went viral, the girl appeared to be reluctant to take the jump even though a net was put up for her safe landing and, it seemed, the trainer was trying to push her, they said. Lokeshwari, a second-year BBA student, who finally took the jump, hit a sunshade in the second floor, police said. She suffered serious head injuries and died while being taken to a government hospital yesterday, they said. Students also claimed that Lokeshwari was not willing to jump. A CRPF jawan was killed while two others sustained injuries in a militant attack in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir today, official sources said. Militants opened fire on a CRPF party deployed on law and order duty at Achabal Chowk in Anantnag district, resulting in injuries to three jawans, the sources said. They said one of the injured jawans succumbed to injuries. The area has been cordoned off and a hunt has been launched to track down the assailants, the sources added.

A four-year-old girl today died after she fell into a nullah during heavy rains in Maharashtra's Yavatmal district, a senior official said. District Collector Rajesh Deshmukh said that Akansha Anil Gaikwad was playing on the road near a nullah, in Chikli Kanoba village of Ner tehsil, when she fell into it. A fire started on the roof of a coach of Jammu Rajdhani train near Sabzi Mandi station here tonight but no injury or casualty was reported and it was brought under control shortly, officials said. A call of fire incident involving the train was received by the Delhi Fire Services around 9.04 pm. The Supreme Court today said that compensation amount of Rs 25,000 which is paid to a victim of hit-and-run accident in case of death is "low" and a bill that proposes to raise this to Rs two lakh is "pending" before the Parliament.
