The flood situation in Assam, which had shown improvement over the last two days, has reversed with two more districts being affected by the rising waters, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said today. Vast tracts of land in Dhemaji and Lakhimpur districts have been freshly inundated, taking the number of affected districts to six, an ASDMA report said. A total of 2,22,792 people in 369 villages have been affected in the current wave of floods, it added. The deluge has so far claimed 24 lives. The flood-affected districts were Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Hojai, Cachar, Hailakandi and Karimganj, the ASDMA report said. The three districts of Barak Valley -- Cachar, Hailakandi and Karimganj -- have been severely affected by the floods. Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal is currently on a visit to these areas to review the situation. Karimganj is the worst-hit district with 1,55,792 people affected, the ASDMA said. A man died and five others were injured after a wall of an under-construction building collapsed in south Delhi's Greater Kailash area on Saturday.Inspector Praveen Rawata of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) said the exact reason for the wall collapse is not yet known."Our team immediately rushed to the spot as soon as we got the information. The injured were all labourer, who were working at the construction site. They have been shifted to AIIMS hospital for treatment," Rawat said.

The accident happened on the busy Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway at around 4pm today and police teams had rushed to the spot, an official said. "The Force Trax MUV rammed into a tempo coming from the opposite direction. Three persons, including a woman, died and three were injured. At least 16 people were killed and 40 others were wounded on Saturday when a bus hit a roadside tree and overturned in Bangladesh's Gaibandha's Palashbari Upazila district.The accident occurred on the Rangpur-Dhaka Highway.According to the Dhaka Tribune, the death toll is likely to increase. The accident happened at around 11am today after the tyre of the MUV burst at Shirvada Phata and it rammed into an ST bus coming from the opposite direction, Sanjay Darade, Superintendent of Police said. The MUV, carrying people who were going to attend a marriage ceremony, was moving towards Nashik from Dhule while the bus was headed towards Satara, the SP said. "The driver lost control of the vehicle after its tyre burst and collided with the ST bus. Six persons died and eight others sustained injuries. The injured have been shifted to a state-run rural hospital nearby," Darade said. An accidental death report (ADR) has been registered at Vadner Bhairav Police Station in this case and further probe into the incident was underway, the SP said.

A woman railway employee was run over and killed by a train when she was crossing the tracks near Bhubaneswar station here, railway sources said today. The 35-year-old woman, identified as Madhusmita Pradhan, was posted at Bhubaneswar railway station and was staying at her quarter near the station. After the accident yesterday, she was taken to hospital where doctors declared her dead on arrival, the sources said. Pradhan, a widow, was on leave yesterday, the sources said.

Two bike-borne men were run over by a milk laden tanker at Jamo market here, police said today. The deceased were identified as Israel (18) and Amit Chaurasiya (23), SHO, Jamo, Madhav Raj Dvivedi, said. Both of them were seriously injured in the accident. They were rushed to a hospital where they were declared dead, the SHO said. The driver fled the spot after the accident, the police said, adding efforts were on to nab him.

A fire broke out on the second floor of a state-run district hospital at Margao, 40 km from here, this evening. Fire and emergency services officials said that no casualties were reported, and the fire was soon brought under control. The facility, known as Hospicio Hospital, operates from a Portuguese-era building. "Smoke was seen coming out of the second floor around 5.45 pm," said Ira Almeida, medical superintendent of the hospital. The floor has a kidney dialysis facility, but patients had left by 4 pm, and there were no patients when the fire broke out, she said. The fire was brought under control within half an hour before it could spread, fire officials said.

The Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) train between Berhampur and Cuttack started today, railway officials said. The MEMU train replaces the Berhampur-Cuttack- Berhampur passenger train. "The new train will run six days a week from Monday to Saturday as per the schedule of Berhampur-Cuttack-Berhampur passenger," said a railway official. The new train has 12 coach rakes. Each coach has a capacity of 110 passengers. Unlike the ordinary passenger and DMU trains, the MEMU train has water facilities for the passengers, said the railway officer. MEMU trains have two engines on both ends and so, no time will be wasted in changing it. Unlike regular trains where a locomotive hauls the coaches, these trains are specially designed with self-propelling motors beneath the passenger cars. The MEMU train services will be introduced in other sections after reviewing the feedback from the passengers, the sources added.
