Over 50 Chinese-made aircraft delivered to Belt and Road countries: Report

Over 50 Chinese-made aircraft, which can be used for both passenger and cargo transportation, have been delivered to eight Belt and Road countries, the planes' manufacturer said today. The latest two Y-12E aircraft were delivered on April 17 to Nepal, where they will be used for domestic short distance transportation, AVIC Harbin Aircraft Industry Group (HAIG) Co Ltd said. Nepal had previously bought two Y-12Es in 2014 and 2017, respectively. The two aircraft have recorded more than 1,725 safe flight hours. The plane made a significant contribution to transporting supplies after the country suffered from an earthquake in 2015, the state-run Xinhua news agency reported. The HAIG, based in northeast China's Harbin, is a components supplier for international aviation enterprises such as Boeing and Airbus, and has independently developed a variety of aircraft, including helicopters and light regional aircraft, the report said. Oil spill: TN Govt begins disbursal of compensation to

The Tamil Nadu government has started disbursal of Rs 131 crore of compensation for fishermen whose livelihood was affected due to an oil spill here last year following collision of two ships. The Madras High Court had last week directed the Tamil Nadu government to disburse the amount within four weeks. The crude oil spill occurred on January 28, 2017 following a collision involving a cargo ship leaving after emptying Liquefied Petroleum Gas and another vessel loaded with petroleum oil lubricant, which was on its way to berth at the Kamarajar Port at Ennore. The spill had affected the livelihood of fishermen along the eastern coast from Ennore Port to Mahabalipuram, a distance of about 70 km from here, involving three districts of Chennai, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur. IAF conducts mass casualty evacuation drill from Assam to Kolkata

The Eastern Air Command (EAC) of the Indian Air Force conducted a mass casualty evacuation drill on March 19, as part of Gagan Shakti 2018 exercises.It was conducted from Air Force Station Chabua in Assam to Netaji Subhash International Airport in Kolkata and further on to Command Hospital (Eastern Command), Alipore by road.About 45 'bedridden' patients arrived at Kolkata by two Antonov-32 aircraft that landed in the middle of the night.With the medical teams already waiting, the patients were offloaded and after preliminary procedures, swiftly transferred to the ambulances. 2 Germans tourists killed when bus crashes in Peru's Andes

Authorities in Peru say at least two German tourists were killed and another 10 injured when their minibus went off the road and fell into a ravine in the Andes Mountains. Highway police chief Jorge Castillo said rescuers were trying to retrieve the bodies of two male tourists trapped in the wreckage of the vehicle, which crashed shortly before reaching Chivay, a city 712 kilometers southeast of Lima. Castillo said the accident occurred yesterday when the minibus was on a downhill curve. Video obtained by The Associated Press showed several tourists helping to carry people on stretchers. The tourists were heading from Arequipa in Peru's southern Andes to the Colca Valley. In November, four German tourists died in another accident in Peru's Huancavelica region.

Odisha: Rural women go the extra mile for water

As the intense heat condition prevails across Odisha, rural areas in the state are facing an impending water crisis.The women of Mayurbhanj district are forced to travel to far off places to fetch buckets of water from other areas for drinking purposes.Locals told ANI that the area has been reeling under acute drinking water crisis for the last few days. 3 killed, 5 injured in Telangana road mishap

Three persons were killed and five others injured in a hit-and-run case when a speeding vehicle rammed into a stationary autorickshaw in the district today, police said. Two passengers of the autorickshaw and its driver were killed on the spot, they said. Five others, including three women, were injured and had been admitted to a hospital here. Investigations were on to identify the vehicle that hit the autorickshaw and sped away, police added.

Goa: tourists advised to stay away from beaches due to rough

Following a warning of high waves for coastal states issued by the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Service (INCOIS), a Goa government-appointed agency today advised people to stay away from beaches during the week-end. "INCOIS has issued an alert, cautioning that there may be high-energy swell waves along the coast on April 21 and 22," said Drishti, the government-appointed life-guard agency which looks after safety at Goa's beaches, in a release. "Coastal states including Goa are advised to be cautious as rough sea conditions will prevail during these days. The states and the Union Territories for whom the warning has been issued are Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Lakshadweep, Karnataka, Goa, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Odisha and West Bengal," the release said.

DMs in U'khand to get Rs 5 cr each to deal with emergencies

The Uttarakhand government will grant Rs five crore each to the District Magistrates before rains to deal with any emergency during a disaster, an official said. Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat issued instructions to this effect while chairing a meeting of the state disaster management authority here. Rawat said local people should be trained to deal with disasters, andrelief and safetyequipment should be made available at the local level. He also called for strengthening of the incident response system (IRS) and early warning system to minimise losses. "Special care should be taken of disaster prone areas. Areas vulnerable to earthquakes should also be identified and methods of effective disaster management and relief in those areas should be implemented," he said.

Mineral foundation's corpus to help people affected by mines

Goa"s Directorate of Mines and Geology has invited applications from people affected by the closure of mines to avail benefits from the state's District Mineral Foundation (DMF), the corpus of which has been collected through taxes paid by mining firms. "DMF "has been established for both districts in Goa to work for the benefit of people and areas affected by mining," a state government spokesperson was quoted in an official release. "A sum of Rs 180.33 crore has been collected for the DMF corpus. North Goa district accounts for Rs 93. 84 crore and South Goa Rs 86.49 crore of this," the official said. The DMF is tasked with working for the benefit of those employed in the mining industry and also to restore areas damaged by mining, the spokesperson said. Slot constraints: Air Deccan stops Pune-Nashik flights

Air Deccan has stopped its flights on the Pune-Nashik route owing to non-availability of slots at Pune airport, an airline source said. The flight was launched in December last year under the government's regional air connectivity scheme UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik). "The defence ministry had given us landing rights at Pune airport only for three months, which expired in February, following which our services on the Pune-Nashik route have been suspended for nearly two months," an airline source told PTI here. Airports at Pune and Nashik come under the defence ministry. The services can be resumed only after getting new slots at Pune airport, the source said, adding that the issue has been taken up with the civil aviation ministry. Services resumed today between Palarivattom and Maharajas stations after track experts certified that the structural stability of metro was not affected after the cave in last night during piling near Kaloor station. More than 50 injured in train accident in Austria

Fifty-four people were treated for injuries after two train carriages collided at a station in the Austrian city of Salzburg today, the state rail company OeBB said. The accident happened when a carriage from a train arriving from Venice struck a carriage on the service from Zurich, to which it was meant to be coupled before heading to Vienna. The "two carriages collided for unknown reasons," fire service official Reinhold Ortler told O1 radio. Around 240 people were on board the two trains, which contain both seated and sleeping compartments. "Fifty four people were treated. Fortunately we're only talking about light injuries," OeBB spokesman Robert Mosser told.

Small plane crashes in Pennsylvania, killing 2 people

A small plane has crashed in central Pennsylvania, killing two people. The Federal Aviation Administration says the single-engine aircraft crashed around 8:45 AM yesterday in a residential area in Williamsburg, about 16 kilometers east of Altoona. The plane had taken off in Lancaster and was originally bound for South Bend, Indiana, but was diverted to the Altoona airport. The Blair County Coroner's Office has confirmed that two people died, but has not released their identities. The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the crash.
