Vehicular traffic on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was suspended this evening after heavy rains triggered a landslide in the Ramban-Banihal sector, officials said. A landslide occurred at Maroog, near Ramban, blocking the arterial road, the only all-weather link between Kashmir and rest of the country, a traffic department official told PTI. He said heavy rains lashed major parts of the highway but the movement of traffic remained unaffected during most of the day. While traffic movement was allowed from Jammu to Srinagar this morning, the official said a decision to allow plying of vehicles from Srinagar to Jammu would be taken tomorrow depending on the improvement in weather and road clearance operations.

Four persons were injured after a house collapsed today in the eastern suburb of Wadala here, police said. The incident happened at Hindustan Nagar near the Sangam Nagar police post in the evening, they added. Officials said that four persons, including three children, who were trapped inside when the ground plus one structure collapsed were rescued by fire brigade personnel. The four were rushed to Sion hospital nearby and doctors have said that their condition was stable, police officials informed.
A minor fire broke out in a coach of the Alleppey-Dhanbad express train near here today, but no one was injured, police said. After it was noticed, the train was stopped at Oothukuli in nearby Tirupur district around two PM, they said. Railway staff put out the fire and the train proceeded to its destination, police said, adding, no passenger was injured. Investigation is on to ascertain the cause of the fire.

The Delhi-Leh-Jammu flight took off from Leh at 9.20 am but had to return shortly after due to a technical snag, airline officials said. On the glitch, a GoAir official said there was an indication" in the oil chip detection system and spare parts would be flown in. In a statement, GoAir said, "G8 205 (Leh-Jammu) with 112 passengers had a technical glitch right after becoming airborne. The flight crew chose to return to Leh. Three people were killed and seven injured in separate road accidents in Amethi district, police said today. SHO (Munshiganj) VK Mishra said Sabhajit Mishra (40) and Suresh Pandey (38) were killed when a truck hit their jeep near HAL Korwa Power House on the Banda-Tanda national highway. The other five passengers were undergoing treatment at a hospital, he said, adding that the truck driver fled from the scene after the accident. In another accident, Ajay Singh (17), a school student, was killed near Naugawan on same national highway when his bike was hit by a jeep. His companions, Sanjay and Raju, both aged 15 years, were badly injured in the accident. The jeep driver fled from the spot, the SHO said.
Two sailors died after a yacht competing in an organized race capsized off the southwest coast of Western Australia. Race officials today said the yacht Finistere was taking part in the 70th Bunbury and Return Ocean Race and had six people aboard when it overturned off Mandurah, south of the state capital Perth. The Australian Maritime Safety Authority said it received a distress call just before midnight Friday. A rescue helicopter arrived at the overturned vessel at the same time as two other yachts. Crew from those yachts pulled five people from the water, including a sailor who had died. A sixth person remained missing, but a body was spotted by a helicopter on Saturday afternoon and recovered by police. The Bunbury and Return Ocean race is organized by the Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club in Perth. The race has been cancelled. There was no immediate indication as to what caused the 15-meter yacht to capsize.

Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have issued a low danger avalanche warning for high-altitude areas in the state, including the Jammu-Srinagar national highway, and advised people to take precautionary measures. On the basis of information received from Snow & Avalanche Study Establishment (SASE), low danger avalanche warning has been issued for various high-altitude areas, an official spokesman said. The warning has been issued for Baramulla, Gulmarg, Furkian-Z Gali and Kargil and Leh Districts, Kupwara-Chowkibal-Tangdhar, Kulgam, Badgam, Kupwara, Bandipora, Ganderbal Kargil and Bandipora-Kanzalwan-Gurez sector and the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway for the next 24 hours, he said. The warning has also been issued for Kargil and Leh in Ladakh region, Poonch, Rajouri, Reasi, Ramban, Doda, Kishtwar and Udhampur in Jammu region, the spokesman said. At least three labourers were killed and five others injured when a stack of bricks collapsed at a brick field in Chapra area of Nadia district today, the police said. The incident occurred at Rajibnagar locality when the labourers were placing newly manufactured bricks in a stack. Suddenly, the stack collapsed and eight labourers went under a pile of bricks. Two of them died on the spot and another one succumbed to injuries later, the police said adding that two of the deceased were women. The injured were admitted to the Shaktinagar Hospital in Krishnagar.
