Uddhav harboured CM ambition since 2004, staged endorsement in 2019: Shinde

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Tuesday claimed that Uddhav Thackeray nurtured the ambition to become the CM since 2004 but things didn't work out. Addressing the annual Dussehra rally of Shiv Sena led by him at Azad Maidan in south Mumbai, Shinde also disclosed that two persons were sent to NCP chief Sharad Pawar to recommend Thackeray's name for the post of chief minister. "It was his (Uddhav's) wish to become the CM since 2004 but the 'jugaad' didn't work out. He pretended that he was never interested in the post. It was said publicly that he accepted the responsibility (after the 2019 assembly elections) on the advice of Sharad Pawar. Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday said the country needs a strong government but not of "one party with brute majority", and batted for a coalition rule. With the formation of a low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal on Friday, Odisha's coastal districts are likely to witness a wet Dusshera as the IMD has predicted rains from October 23. The IMD has forecast rains in coastal districts of the state from October 23 to 25. "A low-pressure area has formed over Bay of Bengal..., the India Meteorological Department's (IMD) regional centre in Bhubaneswar said on X. The system is likely to intensify further into a depression around October 23, it said. "Under its impact, some parts of coastal Odisha would experience rainfall activities from October 23 to 25. Whether heavy rainfall would occur or not, can be predicted only after knowing the path of movement of the depression," IMD centre director H R Biswas said. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Tuesday said his party Shiv Sena could have held its Dussehra rally at the Shivaji Park ground in Mumbai, but as the head of the government he decided not to go ahead with the plan for the sake of maintaining law and order. The statement came hours after the ruling Shiv Sena withdrew its application submitted to the Mumbai civic body seeking permission for a rally on Dussehra at the iconic ground in Dadar, thus avoiding a potential face-off with the rival faction led by former Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, which, too, wants to use the sprawling site for its programme the same day. Taking a dig at the opposition Shiv Sena (UBT) headed by Thackeray, Shinde said if the Congress is "pampered" from the ground which gave a call for Hindutva, then it cannot be the Shiv Sena's Dussehra rally. The Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena on Friday alleged that Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde's Dussehra rally was a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-backed event, and mocked him saying that he only "read out Modi-Shah Chalisa" during his speech.
