Electric scooter-maker Bounce Infinity on Thursday said it has partnered with SUN Mobility under which the latter will deploy Bounce Infinity's 30,000 e-scooters in key markets across the country. Electric vehicle maker Simple Energy has started delivering its first e-scooter Simple ONE to its customers in Bengaluru on Tuesday, almost 22 months after its unveiling. The company unveiled its maiden offering on August 15, 2021, but launched it officially on May 23 this year at Rs 1.45 lakh (ex-showroom), around Rs 35,000 higher than the price it had announced at the time of pre-bookings. The Society of Manufacturers of Electric Vehicles (SMEV) has called upon the government to levy an additional green tax on two-wheelers with internal combustion engine to incentivise EV adoption and help in the reduction of pollution creating crude oil imports. The Green tax would also rationalise the expected drop in sales of EV on account of reduction in subsidies starting this month, the industry body representing electric vehicles said in a statement. SMEV believes that an increase in taxes to the tune of 100 basis points on traditional polluting ICE 2-wheelers will be required to fund subsidies for electric two-wheeler vehicles and put the FAME scheme back on track, it added. The country's largest two-wheeler maker Hero MotoCorp has increased price of its electric scooter VIDA V1 Pro by around Rs 6,000 in order to offset the impact of curtailed subsidy structure on electric two-wheelers coming into effect from June 1. The company's flagship electric scooter VIDA V1 Pro will now be available at Rs 1,45,900 including FAME II subsidy and portable charger. This is an increase of around Rs 6,000 from the earlier pricing. When contacted, a company dealer confirmed the development and noted that the two-wheeler maker has absorbed the major impact of the reduction in subsidy under FAME II effective June 1, and passed on only a small fraction of the additional cost to the prospective buyers. A comment from the company could not be ascertained immediately. For electric two-wheelers, the maximum subsidy cap, which was 40 per cent of the ex-factory price, has been reduced to 15 per cent by the Ministry of Heavy Industries. Delhi government will soon start an e-scooter service to address the last mile connectivity issues, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced on Saturday. These scooters will be self-driven, and will last for 60 kilometres in one charge, he said while addressing a press conference. The project will initially be started in Dwarka which has no metro stations or bus stops. Subsequently, other locations with high footfall will be identified, he said. "We have improved the public transport system, inducted more buses and now with this e-scooter facility, we will address the problem of last mile connectivity," he said.
