The annual and semester examinations in state universities will begin in the last week of February, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma has said. In a statement issued by the UP government, Sharma, who also holds the portfolio of higher education, said, "The annual and semester examinations in various universities in the state will begin in the last week of February. Elaborate arrangements have been made to ensure the examinations are held transparently, and free of cheating in a fair and systematic manner." He said instructions have been issued to all divisional commissioners, district magistrates and vice-chancellors in this regard. Instructions have been issued to form a multi-level mobile task forces in this regard across the state. Every examination room should have at least two CCTV cameras installed for monitoring. Over 300 Kashmiri students have reached Mohali from Uttarakhand and Haryana on their way to their homes, a student body arranging their stay in the Punjab town said Monday, amid reports of harassment of students from the Valley in Dehradun after the Pulwama terrorist attack. Some Kashmiri youths studying in the Uttarakhand capital have alleged they were harassed and asked by their landlords to vacate accommodations fearing attacks on their properties after the terrorist strike in Pulwama on Thursday that left 40 CRPF personnel dead. Five persons, including two examinees, have been arrested so far for their involvement in the alleged question paper leak of Madhyamik Examinations, a West Bengal CID official said Monday. The CID had taken up the case after reports of question paper "leak" surfaced from several districts of the state. The official said that all the arrests were made late on Sunday night. A total of 10,66,000 students are appearing in the class X school leaving examination conducted by the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education. A Kashmiri student has been suspended by his college in Greater Noida for allegedly posting controversial remarks on Facebook about the Pulwama terror attack, officials said on Sunday. Ishfaq Ahmad Khoja, a final year MBA student of IIMT College of Engineering, has claimed that the remarks, which were posted on Friday, were made through a fake profile bearing his photo, they said. The Jammu and Kashmir government Sunday asked its liaison officers across the country to ensure safety of J-K students studying in other states following reports of alleged harassment after the Pulwama terror attack, an official spokesman said. The officers are deputed in six regions of the country and are supposed to coordinate with college authorities and local administration of their areas to resolve any issues, the spokesman said. The state government had appointed the liaison officers (LOs) in November last year at regions across India, including Delhi-NCR-Meerut, Jaipur-Bhopal, Chandigarh, Aligarh, Bengaluru and Pune, in order to coordinate with students from the state, he said. The students in these regions have been advised to get in touch with the LOs in case they face any problem. Two new districts, Narayanpet and Mulugu, were created Sunday in Telangana taking the total number of districts in the state to 33. Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao had directed the officials in December 2018, to start the process of formation of the two new districts as per his election promise. Narayanpet has been carved out of Mahabubnagar district while Mulugu from Jayashankar Bhupalpally district. Telangana earlier had 31 districts. Mahabubnagar District Collector D Ronald Ross, in-charge for Narayanpet and Bhupalapally Collector V Venkateswarlu for Mulugu, inaugurated the Collectors' offices in the newly created districts. Telangana, which came into existence on June 2, 2014 as the 29th State of India, started out with 10 districts. In 2016, 21 new districts came into existence in Telangana.

State Education Minister Govind Singh Dotasara said course curriculum committees have been directed to include lessons of bravery and sacrifice in books of classes 1 to 12. "After being moved by the Pulwama terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir, it has been decided to include lessons of bravery of martyrs in school books. It will develop a sense of respect for the martyrs among students and will develop feeling of patriotism," Dotasara told PTI. He said the curriculum committees for classes 1 to 8 and classes 9 to 12 will decide the form and type of lessons to be included and submit their reports by February 20, and added that the time limit may be extended as per requirements.

Three Afghan nationals were detained here on Sunday after they failed to provide documents of the vehicle they were travelling in, police said. The three were intercepted at Transport Nagar check-post. They were detained for interrogation after they failed to show documents of the car having a New Delhi registration, Sub Inspector (SI) Ramesh Chandra said. He said two of them were students of a Noida-based private university whereas one was a student of a university in Afghanistan's Kabul. All three were carrying university ID cards, passport and visa. Intelligence and ATS officials were interrogating the suspects, the SI added.
