Delhi Assembly: BJP MLAs stage walkout from House

Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta and two BJP MLAs staged a walkout from the House Tuesday to register their protest after their requests for discussion on their respective issues were turned down by Speaker Ram Niwas Goel. As the House proceedings of second and the concluding day of the special session began, Gupta demanded an adjournment motion for a discussion in the House on "poor condition of education system". Following Gupta's demand, Sharma and Pradhan also made requests for calling attention motion to discuss health and other issues. The session also saw heated arguments between AAP MLAs and the Opposition members. The Speaker asked Gupta to meet him personally before filing such requests. Nursery admissions in Delhi from Dec 15; upper age limit to take effect

The nursery admission process for approximately 1,600 private schools in the national capital will begin from December 15 with the government imposing an upper age limit from this year. Delhi government's Directorate of Education (DoE) has released a detailed schedule as per which the last date of submitting application forms for nursery class admission for 2019-20 session is January 7. The first list of selected children, along with marks secured by them, will be out on February 4. The second list will be out on February 21 and the nursery admission process will conclude on March 31. Twenty-five per cent seats in pre-school, pre-primary and Class 1 will be reserved for economically weaker sections/disadvantaged groups (EWS/DG). The directorate has instructed all private schools to upload their criteria (with points for each criterion) for admission in open seats, on its official website by December 14. Minister calls for reforms in education sector

Arunachal Pradesh Education minister Honchun Ngandam Tuesday called for reforms in the education sector to ensure fundamental changes at all levels of operation. Addressing vice-chancellors and college principals, at the inaugural session of a workshop here, he said the fundamental changes require greater accountability, transparency, and morality. "Time has come to create a wave of institutional building and of excellence in the fields of higher education, research, and capability with enhanced capacities," he said. Hooghly college teachers protest against TMCP

Teachers of Hooghly Women's College here demonstrated at the college gate Tuesday alleging that some members of the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) had forcibly stopped the teachers from participating in the foundation day programme of the institution. College Principal Seema Banerjee told reporters the teachers demonstrated outside the college main gate when they were forcibly prevented by some TMCP members from entering the institution and conducting its foundation day and prize distribution ceremony. She said some outsiders, who were not students of the institute had been entering the campus and creating trouble for past several months in the name of TMCP. IIT Kharagpur signs MoU with Auckland University

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur and Auckland University have signed an MoU to foster academic exchange and research collaboration, faculty exchange and student mobility. The institutes will typically explore opportunities for research in healthcare technologies, new materials, cyber security and Artificial Intelligence, an IIT Kharagpur statement said Tuesday. Presidency hostel impasse ends, students jubilant

The Presidency University on Monday announced that a portion of the over 130-year-old Hindu Hostel, under renovation for over three years sparking intermittent agitation by students, would be thrown open for boarders within a week. The announcement came after the state Public Works Department (PWD), which was undertaking the renovation work, gave clearance for two wards of the hostel, triggering jubilation among the boarders. "We got the no-objection certificate from the PWD today for two wards of the hostel. The students will be housed in those two wards within a week," Presidency Vice-Chancellor Anuradha Lohia told PTI. She said a welfare board having university officials and students is being formed to monitor the shifting and allotment of seats. Maha Assembly: Educational fee regulation Act amended

The state Legislative Assembly Monday passed an amendment to the Maharashtra Educational Institutions (Regulation of Fee) Act 2011, allowing parents to pay fees on monthly, bi-monthly or quarterly basis as decided by the school management. Parents intending to pay the fee at one go every six months or yearly will be allowed to do so and the management shall offer rebate, the amendment lays down. The management of private unaided schools and permanently unaided schools shall also be entitled to charge a late payment fee, along with with penal interest, it states. The rate of penal interest in this regard, however, will be decided by the state government, the amended Act says. The management of private unaidedschools and permanently unaided schools can declare the fee structure for all standards at the time of the admission and will need to display it on the notice board as well as the official website, it says. Over 3OO firms to take part in IIT-M campus placements

More than 300 companies have registered to participate in the first phase of campus placements at Indian Institute of Technology-Madras. In a statement, the institute said the first phase of campus recruitment for 2018-19 will be held between December 1 and 8 with a break of one day on December 5. Centre issues guidelines to regulate weights of school bags

The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has instructed all states and union territories to formulate guidelines to rationalise teaching of subjects to regulate the weight of school bags as per the instructions of the Government of India.Lakshadweep administration has already taken action by directing all schools not to assign any homework to the students of Class I and II.
