Sharda clash: Admin sees 'outsiders' role in escalating tension, assures safety to Afghan students

The Gautam Buddh Nagar administration held a meeting with Sharda University management Friday and suspected role of "outsiders" for triggering violence on the campus, a day after scuffle between Indian and Afghan students at the institute in Greater Noida. A group of foreign and local students, along with a proctorial board of the university, had met the district administration, including senior officials, at 9.30 AM, even as multiple videos surfaced on social media about the violence Thursday. Prez Kovind to attend convocation at Tanda medical college

President Ramnath Kovind will attend the convocation of Dr Rajendra Prasad Medical College, Tanda in Himachal Pradesh's Kangra district on October 29, officials said Friday. Alumni slam college for invite to ex-student Aaditya Thackeray

Over a thousand former students of St Xavier's College here have lambasted the institute for inviting Yuva Sena chief Aaditya Thackeray for an event, saying it was "antithetical" to its values. Aaditya, son of Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray, was present at a press conference Thursday to launch 150th anniversary celebration of the college of which he is a former student. DTU student held for killing teacher in northwest Delhi

A student of the Delhi Technological University has been arrested for allegedly killing a 31-year-old teacher at his tuition centre in northwest Delhi's Mahendra Park earlier this week, police said on Friday. Aakash (21), a resident of Jahangirpuri, was arrested on Thursday night from his residence for allegedly killing Ankit Sagar, they added. Sagar's family members had claimed he was in a relationship with a girl from another community and her brother had killed him. 2 hostel blocks to be ready by Nov 15, Presidency tells

The indefinite fast by a section of the students of the Presidency University here demanding immediate accommodation in the under renovation Hindu hostel entered the fourth day on Friday, as the authorities said two blocks of the hostel will be fit for use by November 15. After talking to state PWD officers, who visited the campus during the day, the university authorities said the PWD promised that renovation work of the two blocks will be completed by mid-November and the blocks will be declared fit for use by November 15, a university official said. Men harass teacher inside UP school; FIR registered

An FIR was registered Friday against unidentified persons for allegedly entering a state-run school in Dataganj area and harassing a female teacher, police said. According to a complaint filed by the teacher, some 10-12 men, some of whom were in an inebriated condition, entered the primary school and started misbehaving with her. She later closed the classroom door and locked her inside. The accused also reportedly tore off the school register and fled the spot, Additional SP Jitendra Kumar Srivastava said. Sharda University clash: District admin discusses issue with varsity management

DUSU president from ABVP never studied in Thiruvalluvar university: NSUI

The National Students' Union Of India (NSUI) on Thursday circulated a letter from the registrar of Thiruvalluvar University to Tamil Nadu's principal secretary of education claiming Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) president never studied at the varsity. Protest in Jamia over non-availability of Turkish language teachers

Some students of Jamia Millia Islamia university are sitting on a protest claiming there are no teachers to teach them Turkish language. However, a spokesperson from the varsity said they have hired a teacher and two more teachers will join the Turkish department soon.
