Days after releasing an "audit report" on the safety of women students on Delhi University campus, NSUI today held a rally in North Campus demanding that the administration implement its recommendations. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said today his government is making efforts to start the OPD services at AIIMS in Gorakhpur, his hometown, by March 2019. The foundation of AIIMS-Gorakhpur was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in July 2016. The Out Patient Department (OPD) services at the hospital was scheduled to start by September this year, but the chief minister said today that the government plans to start it by March next year. "It was a long-pending demand of the people of the area for better medical facilities in Purvanchal region and PM Modi gave this gift to east Uttar Pradesh. We are trying to start AIIMS OPD by March 2019. All formalities related to the state government has been completed," Adityanath said. Over 3.17 lakh students from countries covered by the China's Belt and Road Initiative studied in China, the government said. The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), a pet initiative of Chinese President Xi Jinping was proposed in 2013, and four years on, over 100 countries and international organisations have supported and got involved in this initiative. A total of 317,200 students from BRI countries studied in China in 2017, up 11.58 per cent over 2016, accounting for 64.85 per cent of the total international students in China, the Ministry of Education said in a statement yesterday. About 4.90 lakh foreigners from 204 countries and regions studied in China in 2017, more than any other country in Asia. That included about 15, 000 Indian students, according to unofficial estimates. The Indian students mainly comprised of those studying medicine in colleges across China. The Delhi High Court today reserved its order on a plea of the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) seeking contempt action against its students' union office bearers for holding protests within 100 metres of the administrative block. Justice V K Rao heard the counsel for both parties and directed them to file written submissions by tomorrow. "Parties heard. Order reserved. The Delhi government has warned students and parents against 12 fake education boards operating in the national capital. "There is no state board of government of Delhi. Further, the Directorate of Education (DoE), which regulates government, private, unaided and aided schools in Delhi, does not grant any recognition to any board," a DoE order said. "As far as Delhi is concerned, there are only three relevant boards -- Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (ICSE) and National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS)," it said. The Madras High Court has come down on the practice of awarding grace marks to medical students who fail to clear certain subjects. Dismissing a plea filed by a third-year MBBS student of a private college in Puducherry, seeking grace marks to enable her clear the ophthalmology paper, Justice S Vaidyanathan, in a recent order, said the citizens were taken for a ride by such practices. If the students of ophthalmology were allowed to clear the paper with grace marks and if they were going to become doctors and perform surgeries, the patients would have to regain their eyesight only with the grace of the god, the judge said. The petitioner, who had failed twice in the ophthalmology paper, had sought a direction to the Pondicherry University to grant her three grace marks to enable her clear it. She had secured 29 marks in the theory paper, instead of 32 required to pass. Noting that up to five grace marks could be granted to a student as per the university rules, she had prayed for the .

The Punjab School Education Board said today it will upload the new Class 11 history book on its website, after opposition parties accused PSEB of removing chapters related to the era of Sikh Gurus from Class 12 books. "The new book of Class 11 will be uploaded on PSEB website in next 10 days and thereafter, it will be released in the printed form," a senior PSEB official said here. Opposition parties, including the Akali Dal and the Aam Aadmi Party, have charged PSEB with deleting the history of Sikh Gurus from the history book of Class 12. The Madras High Court issued notice to the secretary, Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on a plea to declare certain courses offered by the Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University here, without the permission of the Centre and the Medical Council of India (MCI), illegal. The Maharashtra government will set up an education board for the non-English medium schools in the state, Education Minister Vinod Tawde said today. "The government has decided to form the Maharashtra International Education Board (MIEB) to prepare the syllabus for the non-English medium schools. It will compete with the existing boards such as CBSE and ICSE," Tawde told reporters here. In the first phase, 13 selected Marathi schools will function according to the new syllabus of international standard, he said, adding that every district would soon have least one school affiliated to the international board. The MIEB will be an autonomous body which will decide the curriculum for its schools and conduct examinations, Tawde said. The MIEB will be the second board in the state after the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education.
