Electric mobility startup Pravaig Dynamics on Friday launched a sports utility vehicle Defy, tagged at Rs 39.5 lakh (ex-showroom) to compete with the likes of Audi e-tron and Mercedes Benz EQC . The Bengaluru-based company has commenced the bookings of the model and deliveries are expected to begin from the third quarter of next year. The company aims to produce 10 lakh units by 2028 and cater to both domestic and international markets. "At the beginning we will try to address the domestic market and will look at exports in 2024," Pravaig Chief Strategy Officer Ram Divedi told PTI in an interaction here. In the long run 70 per cent of the production would go into the overseas markets, he added. Divedi said Defy is more affordable to own than other competing products in the market. Electric two-wheeler maker Ather Energy on Sunday said it has drawn up plans to set up 150 fast-charging grids in Tamil Nadu by the end of the current financial year. The company recently inaugurated its first experience centre in Salem under its move to expand retail footprint in the state. India has the potential to become the world leader in electric vehicles production, a research by Berkeley National Laboratory and UCLA said, underlining that making the transition from diesel-fuelled trucks to electric-charged will enable the country to meet the goal of net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2070. The overall retail sales of electric vehicles (EVs), including passenger vehicles, in the country surged nearly 185 per cent year-on-year to 1,11,971 units in October, automobile dealers' body FADA said on Wednesday. EV sales stood at 39,329 units in October 2021. The total passenger EV sales rose 178 per cent to 3,745 units in October 2022 as against 1,346 PEVs retailed in the same month a year ago. Electric commercial vehicle sales grew 125.64 per cent to 274 units, as per the data released by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Association of India (FADA). Electric two-wheeler sales in October 2022 stood at 73,169 units as compared to 19,826 units in the same month of 2021, registering a year-on-year growth of 269.06 per cent. Electric three-wheeler sales jumped 92.87 per cent to 34,793 units as against 18,040 units in October 2021.
