Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that nothing can happen without electricity, it is the heartbeat of development. If the heartbeat stops, then all the work stops
The Delhi government has extended the last date to apply for power subsidy to November 15, officials said on Thursday. The last date to submit the applications, both online and offline, for subsidy on electricity provided by the government was originally set at October 31. Over 34 lakh of around 57 lakh consumers had applied for the subsidy by that date. The Delhi government has decided to provide subsidies to only those consumers who apply for concession. Consumers receive a full subsidy on electricity consumption up to 200 units a month. Those consuming up to 400 units receive a 50 per cent subsidy.
More than 40 per cent of the 56.98 lakh domestic consumers did not opt for power subsidy provided by the Delhi government till the last date of application on October 31, officials said on Monday. While more than 34 lakh domestic consumers applied for power subsidy, those who could not opt for it will have another chance to do so in the billing cycle of next month, they said. A total of 22,81,900 (40 per cent) domestic consumers were yet to apply for the subsidy, officials said. The Delhi government has made changes in its free electricity scheme deciding to provide subsidy to only those domestic consumers who apply for it. Till Monday afternoon, 34.16 lakh applicants opted for the subsidy and the number may slightly increase by the end of the day, officials said. "It means that many consumers have willingly given up subsidy. Chances are also that some consumers could not apply for the subsidy due to various reasons," a Delhi government officer said. The data will be studied and
Proposed amendments are diluting the basic premise of the Electricity Act, it says
Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Friday called for adopting the Delhi electricity model across the country, observing that focus should be on providing affordable or free supply to people, an official statement said. Participating in the state power ministers' meet at Udaipur, Sisodia said making electricity prices flexible like that of petrol and diesel will prove to be harmful for the people and power tariff will never come under control, it said. "If the electricity rates fluctuate on the basis of prices of other commodities in the market, this step of the central government can prove to be dangerous and all the burden will come on the common people," the statement quoting Sisodia said. In the 21st century, electricity is a basic necessity and in such a situation, the government's focus should be on providing 24-hour power supply at affordable rates or for free to the poor public, he said. People pay taxes to the government and expect good education, health, electricity,

Electricity supply across Bangladesh has been restored after the South Asian country plunged into a blackout following the failure of its national power grid, officials said. The blackout, which impacted much of the country, started at 2.05 pm on Tuesday and lasted for nearly seven hours before power was completely restored at 9 p.m. It was not immediately clear what caused the glitch. Many large shopping malls in the capital, Dhaka, closed early on Tuesday evening. Elsewhere, people gathered at fuel stations to collect diesel to run standby generators and market vendors operated amid candlelight. Nasul Hamid, junior minister for power, energy and mineral resources, said in a statement that he regretted the temporary inconvenience caused by the power failure. Officials at the state-run Bangladesh Power Development Board earlier said power transmission had failed in the eastern part of the country. All power plants tripped and electricity was cut in Dhaka and other big cities, said
Power discoms have sought clarification from the Delhi government on the disbursal of subsidy to consumers considering their different billing cycles, sources said on Wednesday. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal earlier this month said that subsidy will be given to only those consumers who will demand it. He said that consumers who apply for subsidy up to October 31 will be provided subsidy for the month of October. However, sources said that discoms do not follow month-wise billing cycles. "The billing of power consumption starts from the date a new connection is energised. So it is different for consumers. Supposedly, if a consumer starts consumption of power after getting connection from 25th of a month, his bill will be generated for a period up to 25th of next month," said a source. Kejriwal had said that those consumers who do not apply for subsidy will not get it. However, they will start getting it if they apply for it again, he said. According to official figures, there are
Good rainfall in the catchment area of the Sardar Sarovar dam in Gujarat's Narmada district has led to the generation of 2,142 million units (MUs) of hydropower so far this year, nearly double as compared to the corresponding period last year. The month of August has contributed the most to it, the official data has shown. As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), both Gujarat and neighbouring Madhya Pradesh have received excess rainfall this monsoon season. Of the Narmada river's total basin area of 97,410 sq km, a total of 85,858 sq km area lies in Madhya Pradesh and 9,894 sq km in Gujarat. From the River Bed Power House (RBPH) turbines at the dam located in Kevadia, 2,142 MUs of electricity was produced till September 20 this year as compared to 1,129 MUs units till September end in 2021, the data shared by the Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Limited (SSNNL) said. RBPH's installed capacity is 1,200 MW. Of the 2,142 MUs, a total of 1,849 MUs were generated in the monsoon .

Ukraine is ready to supply Poland with electricity and help reduce the use of coal for power generation in light of an anticipated energy crisis, the Polish prime minister said Friday. Poland's premier Mateusz Morawiecki and Latvia's President Egils Levits, were in Kyiv for talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy about military and energy security amid the region's efforts to roll back its dependence on Russian energy sources. Morawiecki thanked Zelenskyy for his "understanding" and readiness to provide needed assistance in a short time. Today, because of the embargo on Russian coal, we are bringing in coal from around the world," Morawiecki said during a joint news conference. If we are not to burn it in Polish power plants, we could use some energy from Ukraine, if possible. I was told by the president that yes, it will be possible, shortly, Morawiecki said. Zelenskyy spoke of steps to overcome a potential, future energy crisis. The leaders also discussed ways of urg

Coal stocks at power generating plants rose to about 30 million tonnes last month, state-run Coal India said on Thursday, dispelling fears of shortages of dry-fuel during the monsoon season. The government has been making all efforts to build up coal stocks to avoid the reoccurrence of power outages seen during the summer this year. "...coal stock at power plants is close to 30 MTs, including imported coal, ending August 22 (till 29th). This is substantially higher than 12.8 MTs of August '21 when the stock plummeted by 11.2 MTs in a month," Coal India Ltd (CIL) said in a statement. The PSU said that enhanced supply of fuel from CIL helped the stock stabilise at power houses. "Closing stock for the month of August'22 is a six-year high barring 2020 when pandemic fuelled slowdown saw the stock at 37.7 MT," it said. With a stock of dry-fuel of 31 MT at CIL's pitheads, around 30 MT stock at power plants, and a little over 10 MT at PSU's sidings, goods sheds, private washeries, ports,
The Andhra Pradesh government on Friday maintained that it owed no money to the power generators for electricity purchased through the power exchanges. Power System Operation Corporation Ltd (POSOCO), a Government of India enterprise, has asked three power exchanges -- IEX, PXIL and HPX -- to restrict electricity trading by 27 discoms in 13 states having outstanding dues towards gencos. AP was listed as one of the states that had outstanding amount to the gencos. AP Special Chief Secretary (Energy) K Vijayanand clarified here on Friday that the state power distribution companies did not owe any money to the gencos. "We have cleared all the Rs 350 crore due. It was only due to a communication gap that AP was probably showing as having an overdue," Vijayanand said. Over the past few months, the state has been purchasing about 40 million units of electricity per day through the power exchanges for meeting its needs, AP Transco sources said. The overall electricity demand in the stat
