SC refuses urgent hearing on plea against release of film 'Nanak Shah Fakir'
The Supreme Court today refused to accord an urgent hearing on the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak's Committee (SGPC) plea, seeking modification of the order allowing the movie "Nanak Shah Fakir" to be released in theatres across India. A bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra considered the submission of the SGPC's counsel that nobody should be allowed to portray the life of Sikh gurus, their families and the 'punj pyara' on screen . The bench, also comprising Justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud, said once a film has been granted certification by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), its release can only be stalled through lawful means. The bench did not agree to the submission of Satender Singh Gulati, counsel for SGPC, that the interim plea be heard either today or tomorrow as the film releases in the theatres on Friday. Kevin Spacey sexual assault case to be reviewed by LA Dist Attorney
The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office is reviewing a sexual assault case against Kevin Spacey. The case was completed and presented by the LA County Sheriff's Department on April 5, Variety reported. According to the Sheriff's Dept, the incident, which involved an adult male, allegedly occurred in October 1992 in West Hollywood. The allegations were investigated by Special Victims Bureau from December 11. Spacey was sacked from the Netflix hit series "House of Cards" after actor Anthony Rapp accused him of making an unwanted sexual advance towards him when he was a minor after he attended a party at the veteran's (who was 26 at the time) New York apartment in 1986. Warner Bros severs ties with Brett Ratner
Warner Bros has cut all ties with disgraced director-producer Brett Ratner, who was accused by multiple women of sexual harassment and misconduct in November last year. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio will not renew its deal with RatPac-Dune Entertainment, the USD 450 million slate financing facility that covered costs on some of its biggest blockbusters. Warner Bros' contract with RatPac-Dune expired in March and it was believed the studio would not renew the financing agreement. Last year, the studio chose not to renew Ratner's first-look deal and had him vacate his offices on the lot. He was also sacked as producer on Warner Bros.' film adaptation of the best-selling novel "The Goldfinch".
