Theatres down shutters in AP, Telangana over film print fee

Around 1,800 movie theatres in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh today stopped screening films in protest against the "overpricing" of the virtual print fee (VPF) levied by digital service providers (DSPs) for South Indian films. VPF is a fee that service providers, who supply equipment to project films in theatres using satellites, levy on film producers and theatre owners. According to South Indian Film Producers Council chairman D Suresh, the decision was taken after several rounds of talks between producers and the service providers failed. "The strike call was given by the film industry to protest against the exorbitant VPF levied by service providers. The international norm is that eventually the VPF should become zero. Here, on the contrary, it is being increased which is not acceptable," he told PTI. He informed that there was currently no VPF in the United States as well as for foreign films in India. President Donald Trump isn't pleased with Alec Baldwin's latest comment that impersonating the president is "agony," and is suggesting Saturday Night Live replace the comedian. Trump tweets: "Alec Baldwin, whose dying mediocre career was saved by his terrible impersonation of me on SNL, now says playing me was agony. Alec, it was agony for those who were forced to watch. Bring back Darrell Hammond, funnier and a far greater talent!" Baldwin, a Democratic activist, received an Emmy award for his running parody last year on Saturday Night Live, or SNL. But he tells The Hollywood Reporter that he doesn't enjoy it: "Every time I do it now, it's like agony. Agony. I can't." 'India by the Nile' festival to start next week in Egypt

The mega annual cultural festival 'India by the Nile', organised to celebrate Indian culture and its diversity, will begin here next week with the main focus on classical culture this year. The 12-day event, the biggest foreign festival in Egypt, will host a wide range of events and starts on March 6. The festival which provides audiences an Indian cultural experience and encourages artistic collaborations between India and Egypt will be held in several cities such as Cairo, Alexandria and Port Said. "There is a big focus this year on classical culture which is very ancient like music, dance and yoga. ITBP band gives stellar performance in maiden concert

The Indo-Tibetan Border Police(ITBP) band gave a musical performance at the Siri Fort auditorium in New Delhi yesterday. Teaser of Rajinikanth's movie 'Kaala' released

The teaser of superstar Rajinikanth's upcoming flick 'Kaala' was released today, with the trilingual movie all set to hit the screens on April 27. The near two-minute teaser starts off with veteran star Nana Patekar asking what kind of a name 'Kaala' is, with a voiceover in the next scene saying it means not only the colour black, but also someone who fights and defends.
