Kannada actor Chandrashekar passes away in Canada
Noted Kannada actor Chandrashekhar passed away early this morning in Canada of a cardiac arrest, family sources said. He was 63, and is survived by his mother, wife and a daughter. The actor had recently returned to Canada, where he currently resides. He was hospitalized yesterday following uneasiness and pain, the family said, adding they received news of his demise early this morning. Chandrashekar rose to fame for his role in 'Edakallu Guddada Mele', directed by Puttanna Kanagal. He has acted in over 40 films, the last of which was '3 ghante, 30 dina, 30 secondu'. Leading Kannada actors like Srinath and Jai Jagadish, besides other film personalities visited the actor's residence here on coming to know of his death Chief Minister Siddaramaiah also tweeted condoling Chandrashekhars death. "His service to the state and language through films is immortal," a tweet on the Chief Ministers official twitter handle said.

Literature closely follows the development of civilisation, West Bengal Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi said today, the concluding day of Tata Steel Kolkata Literary Meet here. Popular writer Chetan Bhagat today supported Prasoon Joshi's decision to pull out of the ongoing Jaipur Literature Festival (JLF), saying he would have done the same had he faced threats like the poet-lyricist did. Man beaten up for saying he was going to watch 'Padmaavat'
Police in Ankleshwar town of Gujarat today arrested two persons for allegedly thrashing a man for saying, 'despite being a Rajput', that he planned to watch the film "Padmaavat". According to the complainant Upendrasingh Jadhav, a resident of Vadodara, the incident took place on January 24 when he was visiting Ankleshwar. Sitting in a hotel, he was speaking on phone with a friend in Vadodara, asking him about the situation ahead of Padmaavat's release, and told him that as the film won't be released in Gujarat, he planned to travel to Mumbai to watch it. The accused, identified as Bhargavgsinh Padhiyar and Ranjit Fuvad, overheard him, and assaulted him saying 'how could he dare to watch the film, despite being a Rajput and despite the Karni Sena's appeal for the film's boycott', Jadhav told police. 'The Shape of Water' accused of plagiarism
Guillermo del Toro, whose film "The Shape of Water" recently bagged the highest number of nods for the Academy Awards, has been accused of plagiarism by the estate of the late Pulitzer-winning playwright Paul Zindel. David Zindel, Paul's son, told The Guardian that the film, a lyrical drama about a mute cleaning lady's unique bond with a sea creature, has been "obviously derived" from his father's play 'Let Me Hear You Whisper'. del Toro, who directed and co-wrote the film with Vanessa Taylor, is yet to respond on the allegations. Singer Celine Dion, who had to cancel several shows on doctor's advice, has said she is doing "better". The seven-time Grammy award winner had cancelled seven concerts, slated between January 6 to January 20 at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, on doctor's advice as she was suffering from cold. Dion shared her health update on Instagram, where she posted a photo with Adele, who was wearing a top emblazoned with Dion's face and had visited her during one of the shows. Shri Rajput Karni Sena today said it was ready to pay the money spent on making Padmaavat if it was handed over the film's rights and stressed that the organisation had nothing to do with the incidents of violence that happened over its release. Karni Sena's chief Lokendra Singh Kalvi said at a press conference that their members or of any other Kshtariya organisation had no hand in the attack on a school bus. Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit today greeted Padma awardees from Tamil Nadu, including music composer Ilayaraja. The Governor sent congratulatory messages to Ilayaraja and R Nagaswamy, awarded Padma Vibhushan and Padma Bhushan respectively, besides the four persons selected for Padma Shri, a Raj Bhavan release said here today. Ilayaraja has been chosen for the country's second highest civilian honour, after the Bharat Ratna. Maisie says 'GoT' season eight will premiere in April 2019
Actor Maisie Williams has said the first episode of "Game of Thrones" season eight will land in Arpil 2019. Earlier this month, HBO had confirmed that the epic fantasy show will return in 2019 for a six-episode final season, but the cable broadcaster had not specified the exact date or month. Talking to Metro newspaper, Williams revealed the month the hit drama is supposed to debut. "We wrap in December and we air our first episode in April (2019). That's a four-month turnaround for these huge episodes. There's a lot that goes into the final edit. You would not want to rush this season at all," Williams said. "We owe it to our audience and our fans to really do this final season to the best of our abilities," she added.
