'Captain Marvel' blasts into USD 1 billion league
Marvel Studios' first female-fronted film, "Captain Marvel" has crossed the USD 1 billion milestone at global box office. The Brie Larson-starrer, an origin story of Marvel superhero of the same name, raked in over USD 358 million in the US, while in the international territories, it amassed USD 645 million, Walt Disney, Marvel Studios' parent company, shared in a press release. The film debuted with a bang after minting USD 455 million gross worldwide in its first week. In the US, "Captain Marvel" launched with USD 153 million, the seventh best of any in the 21-film old Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise. The film also registered the second-highest domestic opening weekend for a solo MCU character debut to last year's "Black Panther". It also beat out its DC counterpart "Wonder Woman", which had domestically earned over USD 100 million in its first weekend in June 2017. TMC launches music video for Lok Sabha polls
West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee on Thursday launched a music video for the upcoming Lok Sabha election in the state. The 2-minute-30-second video was on the theme of peace, harmony and progress prevailing in West Bengal, in contrast to an alleged atmosphere of fear in other parts of the country. The music video was shared by Banerjee on all her social media channels Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and Instagram. "I am very happy to share the new music video Maa, Mati, Manush for the forthcoming Lok Sabha Elections. Banerjee said in a post. The state, which has 42 Lok Sabha seats, will vote in all the seven phases. Sonakshi Sinha starts shooting for 'Dabangg 3'
Sonakshi Sinha on Thursday started the shooting for her upcoming film "Dabangg 3". The 31-year-old actor, who is reprising her role as Rajjo in the cop action film franchise, took to Twitter to share the news. "RAJJO is back! From Dabangg, to Dabangg 3... It's homecoming. Day 1 of shoot for me today, wish me luck @BeingSalmanKhan @arbaazSkhan @PDdancing," Sonakshi wrote alongside her photo from the film sets. Earlier this week, Salman Khan and his brother, actor-producer Arbaaz Khan, started the shooting for the third installment in the series. The film, to be directed by choreographer-filmmaker Prabhudheva, will have Salman, 53, reprising his role of Chulbul Pandey. The first part, which released in 2010, was directed by Abhinav Kashyap and actor-producer Arbaaz turned director with part two in 2012. "Dabangg 3" is scheduled to release in December this year.

"Avengers: Endgame" is just around the corner but that has not curbed the enthusiasm among the fans about it and some people have just found a way to monetise the hysteria around the Marvel Studios tentpole. Actor Sridevi's last feature film, "Mom", will open in China on the occasion of Mother's Day. The Ravi Udyawar-directed revenge thriller follows a mother (Sridevi) who avenges a crime committed against her stepdaughter. The film was earlier scheduled to release on March 22 in the country but now has been set for May 10. "We wanted to pick the perfect date for the release of such a special film like 'Mom' in China, which is a huge market and has great potential for the film to do well. Stay on PM biopic: SC agrees to hear Congress leader's plea on April 8
The Supreme Court Thursday agreed to hear on April 8 a Congress leader's plea seeking stay on release of a biopic on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A bench headed by Justice S A Bobde said it will hear the plea on Monday. Senior advocate A M Singhvi, appearing for petitioner advocate Aman Panwar, spokesperson of the Congress, said two high courts have refused to interfere with the release of the movie starring Vivek Oberoi. He submitted that the release of the movie may affect free and fair election as mandated in the Constitution. Singhvi said the movie was slated to be released on April 5 but there were some media reports Thursday which said the release has been deferred by a few days.
