Rita Moreno to be honoured with Peabody Career Achievement award

Veteran actor Rita Moreno is set to receive 2019 Peabody Career Achievement honour. Moreno will be bestowed with the honour on May 18 at a gala event at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City, reported Deadline. The Peabody Career Achievement Award is for individuals whose work and commitment to electronic media has left an indelible mark on the field. "Rita Moreno is a unique talent who has not only broken barriers, but whose career continues to thrive six-plus decades after her acting debut. "We are delighted to celebrate her many contributions to entertainment and media, as well as her passion for children's programming and important social issues," said Jeffrey P Jones, executive director of Peabody. The 87-year-old actor will add the honour to her long list of awards, including an Oscar, a Tony, two Emmys and a Grammy. She is one of the 15 people to win the coveted EGOT quartet of elite awards. 'Game of Thrones' actor Brendan Cowell joins 'Avatar' sequels

Actor Brendan Cowell is the latest addition to the cast of James Cameron's "Avatar" sequels. Cowell, who appeared as Harrag in the seventh season of HBO's epic-fantasy drama "Game of Thrones", has joined the franchise. The actor will be playing Mick Scoresby, who captains a private-sector marine hunting vessel on the planet of Pandora. "Jim and I are thrilled to welcome Brendan to the 'Avatar' family and know that he will bring a great depth to the character of Mick Scoresby," producer Jon Landau said in a statement. The first of four sequels is dated for December 18, 2020, and stars Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana.

Taika Waititi, Utkarsh Ambudkar join action-comedy 'Free Guy'

Director Taika Waititi and Indian-origin actor Utkarsh Ambudkar have joined the cast of action-comedy "Free Guy". The film, set up at 20th Century Fox, stars Ryan Reynolds and is directed by Shawn Levy. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Matt Lieberman and Zak Penn have written the script. The ensemble cast also features Jodie Comer, Joe Kerry and Lil Rel. "Free Guy" revolves on a background character who realises he is living in a video game. With the help of an avatar, he tries to prevent the makers of the game from shutting down his world. Reynolds is also producing through Maximum Effort and Levy through his 21 Laps Entertainment, with Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter producing through Berlanti Productions.

Music-comedy festival to celebrate April Fools' day

Don Rickles to appear as Mr Potato Head in 'Toy Story 4'

"Toy Story 4" director Josh Cooley has confirmed that legendary insult comedian Don Rickles' will appear in the film as Mr Potato Head. The late comedian, who passed away in 2017 at age 90, was signed on to play the character in 2014. "All of his pieces may be replaceable, but his voice is not. Honoured he signed on for TS4, honoured he's in TS4," Cooley tweeted on Thursday. The director said they decided to keep Rickels' voice with permission and by request of his family. The studio was able to incorporate previously recorded and unused voice segments from the gruff-voiced Rickles, who portrayed Mr Potato Head in the first three films in the Disney-Pixar franchise.

Benedict Cumberbatch, Colin Firth to star in World War I drama '1917'

Actors Benedict Cumberbatch, Colin Firth and Richard Madden have joined Sam Mendes' World War I drama "1917". The film also features Mark Strong and Andrew Scott, reported Variety. DreamWorks Pictures and Universal Pictures announced Thursday that the film will start shooting on April 1 in England and Scotland. The film follows two young British soldiers, previously announced as being played by George MacKay and Dean-Charles Cahapman, on a single day at the peak of World War I. Mendes penned the script with Krysty Wilson-Cairns, and will also produce the film. Steven Spielberg's Amblin Partners is producing "1917" through its DreamWorks Pictures brand. Daniel Mays, Adrian Scarborough, Jamie Parker, Nabhaan Rizwan and Claire Duburcq have also been cast.

Denzel Washington, Frances McDormand in talks to star in Joel Coen's 'Macbeth'

Veteran actors Frances McDormand and Denzel Washington are in negotiation to star in filmmaker Joel Coen's "Macbeth". The two Oscar winners will star as the ambitious Scot and his scheming wife in a new adaptation of William Shakespeare's classic play, penned by Coen. The tale follows a lord (Washington) who is convinced by a trio of witches that he has destined to become the king of Scotland. With the help of his ambitious wife (McDormand), Macbeth tries to seize the crown by any means necessary. According to Deadline, Scott Rudin is producing, with A24 on board as a distributor. "Macbeth" has been adapted more than a dozen times for the screen, starting from Orson Welles' 1948 classic to a 2015 film version starring Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard. McDormand has earlier played Lady Macbeth on stage in 2016 at the Berkeley Repertory Theatre.

Veteran actor Pierce Brosnan and Justin Theroux have joined the cast of entertainment company A24's horror project "False Postive". Ilana Glazer, Zainab Jah, Gretchen Mol, Sophia Bush, and Josh Hamilton are also part of the ensemble cast. According to Variety, John Lee is directing the film.
