Take a stand if you're politically aware or don't talk: John on actors voicing opinions

John Abraham says if actors are aware of the political situation in the country, they must voice their opinion but should not do that for effect or to "trend". The actor's comments come a day after Kangana Ranaut blasted Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt calling them "irresponsible" for their apolitical stand on issues concerning national interest. Asked if he believes actors are obliged to make a political comment, John told reporters, "Yes, if they are politically aware. Kangana is very politically aware and she has got a voice. I think you must take a stand if you are politically aware." The actor said one should refrain from commenting on politics if they know nothing about the country. "But you shouldn't be stupidly talented. You can't be an idiot, who knows nothing about which country lies where. If you don't know what's happening from Bihar to Syria, then you should shut up and smile and show your mug that you have done so much work on. Don't talk," he said. John was speaking at the

There has to be war against terror, not country: John Abraham

Actor John Abraham Monday said there should be a takedown on terrorism and not a war with a country or a religion as stereotyping is dangerous in a "polarised" world. The actor was asked about the escalating tension between India and Pakistan post Pulwama attack. "There has to be a war against terror, not against a country, religion, religions or between religions. I am very clear in my outlook. I (will) probably get picked on, but I am not going to sit on the fence and say 'this audience will like it, that won't,'" John told reporters. The actor said he was not the one to shy away from calling a spade a spade. "There has to be a war on terror. It has to be over and done with. That doesn't mean you have to fight with another country. That doesn't mean you have to stereotype people," he said. But today the problem is that the world is getting "polarised", he added. "We are stereotyping people, that's probably the most dangerous sign. It shouldn't happen. But that's the way the world is

The day I become predictable, it will be my downfall: Taapsee Pannu

With name, fame and expectations to deliver, Taapsee Pannu has also gained the confidence that she won't be subjected to audiences' "abuses" over her choice of films. With four Hindi releases -- "Dil Junglee", "Soorma", "Mulk" and "Manmarziyaan" -- and a Telugu film "Neevevaro", 2018 saw a lot of the actor -- but in all different shades. Pannu believes last year was "crucial" as it made her trust her instincts even more. "It is the confidence that I have gained over the years. With certain films, you know that they won't hurl abuses at me. With most of my films, I have that much of confidence. They may do lesser numbers than what we expect or people would talk. But they will appreciate the effort. "2018 was a very pivotal year for me about having confidence in my choices, which now I have. I know my path is such that till the time I'm surprising my audience, they are going to love me. The day I start becoming predictable, it will be my downfall. So I'm walking that path," the actor ...

Can't fool the audience anymore: Dinesh Vijan

Producer Dinesh Vijan says filmmakers have realised only good content will make the cut as the audience today is exposed to global content and expects nothing less from Bollywood. Vijan, who has backed projects like "Badlapur", "Hindi Medium" and "Stree" through his Maddock films, said what was "safe" earlier, isn't anymore. "With the spread of digital medium, the audience is completely aware of the quality of content. You can't fool them anymore. That can't happen. Look at the year we have had, from 'Stree' to 'Badhaai Ho' to 'Uri'. It clearly shows content is the future," Dinesh told PTI. "Anything which was safe, isn't safe anymore. Fortunately the kind of films we wanted to make have now come in fashion. The audience embraces newer content as long as it engages them," he added. While last year's trends saw the success of smaller films, Vijan believes star-driven films are not a blast from the past. "The top stars are massive because they have been here for over 20 years. It's not .

Irresponsible: Kangana on Ranveer, Alia's 'apolitical' comment

Calling Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt "irresponsible" for their apolitical stand on issues, Kangana Ranaut has said film personalities need to take interest in matters of national importance. While promoting their film "Gully Boy", Ranveer and Alia had said they do not have any political views or ideology, prompting backlash from a section of people on social media. On Sunday, Kangana reiterated that while there are "zero per cent chances" of her entering politics, actors should voice concern on issues around them. "I was watching Ranveer and Alia's interview where they said, 'Why should we speak about politics? We haven't done anything.' It doesn't work like that. You have to be responsible. "Ranbir Kapoor was telling somebody, 'Mere ghar mei toh bijli, paani aata hai (My house gets electricity and water). Why should I (care about) politics?' You have this house because of this country. It's the money of the citizens with which you buy a Mercedes. How can you talk like that? This is .
