Srijit's third Kakababu film to be shot in Kenya, South Africa
National award winning film director Srijit Mukherjee will bring the fictional adventurist character Kakababu, conceived by popular Bengali poet-writer Sunil Gangopadhyay, again on the big screen in 2019. The film, adapted from 'Jangoler Moddhe Ek Hotel' from Gangopadhyay, will be shot extensively in the forests of Kenya and South Africa and is scheduled to go on floors soon, Mukherjee told PTI Wednesday. Bengali film superstar Prosenjit Chatterjee, who had essayed the lead in the earlier two films of Kakababu (Mishwar Rahasya and Yeti Obhijaan), will be enacting the role of Kakababu again. "He said the film will be largely shot in Masai Mara Park during May-June when the area is frequented by wild animals. No playing of songs on New Year's eve without payment of licence fee: HC
The Bombay High Court has restrained 98 restaurants, pubs and hotels across the country from playing certain popular film and non-film songs on New Year's eve unless they obtain copyright permissions. The order was passed by vacation judge Justice Bharati Dangre in response to a petition by music licensing body Phonographic Performance Ltd (PPL). PPL, which holds the copyright to over 20 lakh songs recorded by various music companies, claimed that every year during Christmas and New Year, such songs are played at pubs, restaurants and hotels without paying any licence fee. Under the Copyrights Act, such establishments need to seek permission and pay a fee to PPL, the petition said. The petitioner has made several well-known hotels and restaurants including five-star hotels respondents in the case. With Daniel Craig set to say goodbye to James Bond after the 25th film, many names are floating as a possible replacement but British actor Dominic West believes it would be "cool" to have a transgender actor play the fictional spy. Sitarist Manju Mehta gets 'Tansen Samman'
Noted sitar player Manju Mehta has been conferred with the 'Tansen Samman' for 2018 by the Madhya Pradesh government for her contribution in the field of music. Union minister Narendra Singh Tomar presented the award to Mehta, 74, at the inaugural ceremony of the Tansen Music Festival here on Tuesday. She was given a cash award of Rs 2 lakh and a memento. Mehta, a recipient of several honours, learnt music from legendary sitar maestro late Pandit Ravi Shankar, an official in Madhya Pradesh's culture department said. She runs a music school at Ahmedabad in Gujarat, the official added.
