Pa Ranjith to make Hindi directorial debut with Birsa Munda biopic

"Kaala" helmer Pa Ranjith will direct the biopic on the life of Birsa Munda, the tribal freedom fighter who led a religious movement in the modern-day Bihar and Jharkhand in the late 19th century. On the occasion of Munda's 143rd birth anniversary Thursday, the makers announced Ranjith would be making his Bollywood directorial debut with this yet-to-be-titled film. Birsa Munda single-handedly raised an army of tribals and fought against the British for their rights to ownership of land, a press release read. "When I first read about him seven years back, in Mahasweta Devi's 'Aaranyer Adhikar', I knew I will narrate this story. "When Shareen, Kishor and I met to discuss this, we shared the same passion to narrate this inspiring story that will make a brilliant feature film, which will appeal to the Indian as well as the international audience," Ranjith's said in a statement. Megastar Amitabh Bachchan on Thursday sent handwritten notes to director Amit R Sharma and Neena Gupta praising their work in "Badhaai Ho". Neena took to Twitter to share the picture of the letter and a bouquet Bachchan sent her after watching the film. 'AHS: Cult' kind of saved my life: Billie Lourd

Actor Billie Lourd has revealed "American Horror Story" saved her from a nervous breakdown in the aftermath of her mother Carrie Fisher's death. Fisher and her mother, Debbie Reynolds died within a day of each other in December 2016. Lourd, 26, was roped in for the role of Winter Anderson in the 2017 season of the anthology horror show, subtitled "Cult", barely months after Fisher and Reynolds' deaths. "When Ryan offered me 'Cult', it was just a few months after my mom passed, and it honestly helped me process all of my emotions through these characters. "Being able to cry for Winter helped me cry for myself. And it's been really healing and cathartic in an amazing way, and getting to be around all the incredible people on set, they've become like a family to me, and I cannot thank Ryan enough. Honestly, it kind of saved my life," she told ET. The actor currently stars as Mallory in the new "Apocalypse" season of the FX show.

A precursor to Disney's iconic Mickey Mouse has been found in Japan.A 1928 cartoon 'Neck n Neck', designed by Walt Disney featuring 'Oswald the Lucky Rabbit' has been found in Japan, reported the Hollywood Reporter.The character of the rabbit is said to have been the inspiration behind Mickey Mouse, which is considered to be one of the funniest cartoon characters of all time.The 16 mm cartoon 'Neck n Neck' was unearthed by anime historian Yasushi Watanabe. Watanabe, who bought this piece of history 70 years ago, did not realise its significance till date. The 84-year-old historian bought it from a toy wholesale dealer in Osaka.He got to know of its significance after he read 'Oswald the Lucky Rabbit: The Search for the Lost Disney Cartoons' authored by David Bossert, an animator employed at Disney.In an interview with a local daily, Watanabe was excited to get a copy of this as he had been a fan of Disney cartoons for many years.Watanabe's copy is now being kept at the Kobe Planet ...
