Sarat Chandra's 'Devdas' to be adapted for stage
Renowned Bengali writer Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's iconic novella "Devdas" is all set to be adapted yet again, but this time for the stage. The 150-minute production by Mumbai-based theatre group AGP World, has been directed by Saif Hyder Hasan, and will feature popular faces like Gaurav Chopra, Manjari Fadnis, Sunil Palwal, Sukhada Khandkekar, Bhavna Pani, Smita Jayakar among others. To be staged from November 16 at National Centre for the Performing Arts in Mumbai, the theatrical rendition will take the eternal love saga forward and look at the lives of Paro and Chandramukhi in the aftermath of Devdas' death. New 'Robin Hood' unlike previous versions, says director Otto Bathurst
Director Otto Bathurst says his take on the classic tale of Robin Hood is quite different from the previous versions. Bathurst, who has directed "Robin Hood" featuring Taron Egerton as the eponymous outlaw, contends that his outlook towards the character was fresh as he chose to stay away from the previous films that were made about him. "This film has got nothing to do with any of the other Robin Hoods that have been made. I didn't watch them, I wasn't influenced by them at all. The version we made is completely and utterly different from anything you've seen before," he told The Hollywood Reporter. Lee, who heralded a new pop culture in the US in early '60s with his complex and often morally twisted superhero characters, died early on Monday, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Susanne Bier has said her latest directorial "Bird Box" and smash-hit horror thriller "A Quiet Place" are two "very different" films. Actor Sam Worthington is all set to play the lead in an untitled Netflix action thriller. The film will be directed by Brad Anderson, best known for helming the Christian Bale-starrer "The Machinist", a press release by the streaming giant stated. The story follows a man who must find his courage and hold onto his sanity when his wife and daughter disappear in the middle of an ER visit, the official logline of the film read. No urgency in AJL's plea challenging Centre's order ending National Herald building lease: HC
The Delhi High Court Tuesday said there is no urgency in the plea of Associated Journals Ltd (AJL), publisher of the National Herald newspaper, against the Centre's order asking it to vacate its premises here. Justice Sunil Gaur said it will hear the AJL's plea on November 15. The publisher had approached the high court on Monday challenging the October 30 order of the Urban Development Ministry, ending its 56-year-old lease and asking it to vacate the premises in the press enclave at ITO here.

Five films of Bimal Roy will be screened in the 24th Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) in the 'Great Masters Section' as a tribute to one of the greatest directors of Indian cinema. Ranottama Sengupta, who has curated the five Bimal Roy films for the festival screening, told reporters on Monday that the movies were part of a group of classics digitally enhanced by the National Film Archive of India. The films were Pehla Admi (1950), Maa (1952), Yahudi (1958), Do Bigha Zamin (1953) and Sujata (1959). "This is a special section in the 24th KIFF aiming at paying tribute to the masters of cinema who had imparted their Bengali sensibilities to Bollywood films and set a new benchmark," Information and Cultural Affairs Principal Secretary Vivek Kumar said. HC tells home secretary, DGP to hold meet to end film piracy
: The Madras High Court Monday directed the Tamil Nadu Home Secretary and the DGP to hold meetings with people aggrieved by film piracy and find a solution to prevent it. Justice Pushpa Satyanarayana gave this directive on a petition from the Film Exhibitors Association of Tiruchirapalli and and Thanjavur and adjourned the matter to November 28 for further hearing. The association sought a direction to restrain police from arresting owners of cinemas, who are its members,based on complaints saying a film screened was captured on a camera unauthorisedly by cinema owners unless there was proof that these were done at their behest or in connivance with them. Counsel for the petitioner K Ravi submitted that piracy has been a challenge to the film industry,though many measures had been taken to curb such illegal recordings.
