South Africa selects 'Sew the Winter to My Skin' for 91st Oscars

South Africa has selected 'Sew the Winter to My Skin' as its entry for the 'foreign language film' category at 91st Oscars.Written and Directed by Jahmil X.T. Qubeka, the film is about John Kepe, a mid-century outlaw who ends up becoming a folk hero in pre-apartheid South Africa, Variety reported.'Sew the Winter to My Skin' is South Africa's 15th entry in the best foreign language film Oscar category since 1989. Directed by Gavin Hood, 'Tsotsi' won an academy award in 2005.Commenting on the film, the selection committee said that it is an unmistakable, bold, South African voice that tackles historical and contemporary issues, in both South Africa and the world.Jahmil X.T. Qubeka said, "We made this film in order for it to be seen and engaged with. The (Oscar) submission gives it a spotlight and scrutiny it wouldn't otherwise get into the saturated global market.

Box Office: 'Batti Gul Meter Chalu' 1st weekend report

Shahid Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor-starrer 'Batti Gul Meter Chalu's opening weekend collection has turned out to be Rs 23.26 crore.The film earned Rs. 6.76 crore on its first day of the release. It went onto collect Rs 7.96 crore on Saturday and Rs. 8.54 crore on Sunday.According to film critic Taran Adarsh, the social drama did not witness a remarkable jump in the first weekend.He tweeted, "#BattiGulMeterChalu did grow over the weekend, but the jump in biz wasn't substantial enough... Biz on Day 3 was affected due to the crucial cricket match, but the trending is dull... Weekdays are crucial... Fri 6.76 cr, Sat 7.96 cr, Sun 8.54 cr. Total: Rs 23.26 cr. India biz."Set in Uttarakhand, the film deals with the issues of electricity theft and inflated electricity bills. It also stars Divyendu Sharma and Yami Gautam. 'Village Rockstars' director hopes to inspire northeastern filmmakers

Assamese director Rima Das, whose film 'Village Rockstars' has been selected as India's official entry to Oscars 2019 for the Best Foreign Language Film category, said she's hopeful that this feat will motivate other young filmmakers from the northeastern region.Talking about the achievement, the 36-year-old told ANI, "I was waiting for this day. Drake cancels Miami shows as he is 'ill'

Drake says he pulled out of two concerts in Miami because he was ill. The 31-year-old rapper shared the news on his Instagram story and apologised to his fans for cancelling the shows. He, however, did not reveal the nature of his illness. "I just wanted to say how sorry I am about these two Miami shows. I got so ill so fast and I had never experienced anything lie that in my life. "Unlike other show cancellations or date adjustments due to production issues this one fell on me and I just want to apologise because I hate letting down anyone who come to share these moments," Drake wrote.
