Akshay Kumar has emerged as the seventh highest-paid actor in the world by earning USD 40.5 million in 2018, according to Forbes magazine. The "Gold" actor is closely followed by his contemporary Salman Khan in the ninth place, raking in USD 38.5 million. Kumar and Khan are the only two Bollywood actors to make it to the top 10 highest-paid actors list, compiled by the publication. Kumar, who came in 10th last year, upped his game by USD 3 million. Director duo Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK were earlier supposed to helm Rajkummar Rao-starrer horror comedy "Stree" but due to time constraints they had to let go off their pet project. Raj and DK, who have directed, "Go Goa Gone", say the script was originally written for them to direct from. "When we wrote it ('Stree') and developed it, we were thinking to direct it... But we couldn't fit it into the timeline and we did not had much window to push it. "To do it next year would have been too late for a unique film like this. We found Amar Kaushik (director) for doing this film. We have worked with him earlier. 'Stree' was a great experience," the duo told PTI. The curtains on the ninth edition of the Mountain Echoes literary festival went up with a tribute to former Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who was remembered at the annual event for his animated style of poetry recitations. Recalling one of Vajpayee's visits to Bhutan, festival co-director Namita Gokhale last evening said his poetry was loved beyond the language barriers. "In 1977, Atal ji came here and, impromptu, as was his style, with his hand movements, read out a poem in Hindi, which everybody loved but could not understand," the writer said. Vajpayee passed away last week at the age of 93 following a prolonged illness. The Indian statesman was also remembered by Bhutanese writer and festival co-director Tshering Tashi, who said, for the Bhutanese, Vajpayee's best poem was the one that he composed in 1977 at the India House here. Veteran journalist Kuldeep Nayyar passed away on Thursday at a hospital in Delhi. His cremation will take place at Lodhi Road crematorium at 1 pm.Nayyar served as the High commissioner of India to the United Kingdom in 1990 and was also nominated as a Member of the Rajya Sabha in 1997.Expressing his grief over Nayyar's demise, Prime Minister Narendra Modi remembered him as "an intellectual giant"."Kuldip Nayar was an intellectual giant of our times.
