Fire breaks out in projector room of cinema hall in Delhi's Moti Nagar

A fire broke out inside the projector room of a Cinema Hall in west Delhi's Moti Nagar on Sunday afternoon, fire service officials said. No injuries were reported. A call about a fire at the Cinema Hall was received around 1.12 pm and seven fire tenders were rushed to the spot, a senior fire official said. "The fire had broken out in the machine and air-conditioner installed inside the projector room attached to auditorium 3 of the hall. "Sixty-seven people were watching movie when the incident took place. But everyone was evacuated safely and the fire was brought under control," he said. The fire was doused by 2.05 pm, he added.

Fire in south Peru gold mine kills at least 27 in night shift: Officials

A fire broke out deep in a gold mine in southern Peru and killed at least 27 workers during an overnight shift, Peruvian authorities reported. The Yanaquihua mining company said in a statement that a total of 175 workers had been safely evacuated after the accident, which happened late Friday or early Saturday. It said the 27 dead worked for a contractor that specializes in mining. Government officials said the cause of the incident was under investigation. Some news reports said preliminary investigations indicated an explosion might have been set off by a short circuit in a part of the mine about 100 metres below the surface. Relatives of the victims were brought by buses to the mine in Yanaquihua in the Arequipa region, where they were briefed by security agents. 250 evacuated as fire breaks out at new OPD building of IGMCH in Shimla

A fire broke out at the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMCH) here on Thursday after two cooking gas cylinders exploded in the cafeteria, leading to the evacuation of about 250 people from the new OPD building, officials said. No casualty has been reported in the incident that took place in the new Outdoor Patient Department (OPD) building of the hospital, they said. Chief Parliamentary Secretary (Public Works Department) Sanjay Awasthi visited the medical facility after the incident and directed the medical superintendent of IGMCH to conduct an inquiry and submit the report at the earliest. He said that leakage in the gas cylinders led to the fire and also directed the hospital administration to take strict action against the manager of the cafeteria for negligence. The blasts occurred when OPD services had just started. Within 15-20 minutes, about 250 people, including patients, were evacuated with the help of hospital staff and others, IGMCH Medical Superintendent .

Massive fire in West Bengal's Howrah district guts over 100 shops

Over 100 shops were gutted as a massive fire devastated a market in West Bengal's Howrah district in the early hours of Wednesday, officials said. The fire broke out at the Ludlow Bazar in Chengail in Uluberia police station area around midnight, they said. It spread fast, gutting over 100 shops, many of which were temporary structures. Ten fire tenders brought the blaze under control after fighting it for over four hours, officials said. There was no casualty, they said, adding that the cause of the fire will be known after an investigation. The damage caused by the fire is being ascertained, officials said. Traders said they had stocked goods recently expecting surge in sales due to Eid, and the fire caused damage worth lakhs of rupees.

Massive fire breaks out in wheelchair manufacturing company in Gurugram

A massive fire broke out due to a short circuit in a wheelchair manufacturing company in Sector 4 of IMT Manesar here on Friday. More than 100 employees were working at the company at the time of the incident. However, all of them managed to come out safely, according to a fire department official. Fire officer Narender Yadav said they received a call at 5.15 pm regarding the fire at Forza Medi India Private Limited in Sector 4 of IMT Manesar. The fire department team reached the spot and pressed 12 fire tenders into service which managed to douse off the flame after two-and-a-half hours of effort, the official said. The fire spread rapidly from the ground floor to the first due to machinery and goods in the plant. The company has suffered a big loss in the incident, added Yadav.

Maharashtra: Fire breaks out in 12-storey building in Bhiwandi; 20 rescued

At least 20 people were rescued after a major fire erupted in a 12-storey building in Bhiwandi city in Thane district of Maharashtra on Saturday afternoon, officials said. No casualty was reported in the incident, an official said. The building with 48 flats filled with smoke after the blaze erupted at around 2.15 pm and residents rushed out, the official added. "At least 20 residents stranded on upper floors due to smoke were rescued by Fire Brigade personnel," the official said. The blaze destroyed the electricity cable of the building before it was brought under control after two hours at around 4:15 pm. The exact cause of the fire is not known yet but a short circuit could be the trigger, the official said, adding that further investigation is underway.

11 hurt in Detroit apartment building fire, nearly 20 displaced: Official

About a dozen people were hurt in an apartment building fire early Friday morning on Detroit's west side. Twenty people were displaced and 11 people suffered injuries including smoke inhalation, bumps and bruises, Fire Chief James Harris told The Detroit News. The blaze was reported around 3:30 a.m. It left the five-story building heavily damaged. At least some sections of the building's roof appeared to have collapsed. Fire ravages commercial towers in Kanpur, nearly 800 shops gutted

At least 800 shops were gutted in a massive fire that broke out in a multi-storey commercial building and quickly spread to adjacent towers in the Bansmandi area here early Friday, a senior official said. Despite the continuous efforts of fire officials of Kanpur and its nearby districts, the fire could not be doused even till late evening, officials said. Prime facie the fire broke out due to a short circuit following a massive dust storm. The blaze started at 2 am in AR Tower also known as Afaq Rasool Tower and spread to Maqsood, Humraz complex and Nafees towers charing about 800 shops located in these four towers, the official said, adding strong winds fanned the flames. Mumbai: Five women hospitalised after fire breaks out in high-rise flat

Five women, including three senior citizens, were hospitalised after a fire broke on the fourth floor flat of a residential high-rise in Kanjurmarg in Mumbai on Sunday morning, an official said. The fire broke out in the flat in the gound-plus-14 storey building in Mhada Colony in Karve Nagar at 9:26am and was doused some 45 minutes later, he said. "The fire was confined to the wiring, electric installation in the common meter cabin on the ground floor as well as the electric duct. Fire brigade and police personnel arrived at the spot and rescued five persons who were trapped," he said. "They have been hospitalised after suffering injuries and suffocation from smoke inhalation. Their condition is stable," he added.

Six killed in major fire in Hyderabad multi-storey commercial complex

At least six people, including women, were killed in a major fire that broke out in a multi-storey commercial complex in Secunderabad here on Thursday evening, officials said. A senior police officer said the cause of death would be known after investigation but, most likely, inhaling smoke could be the reason. "We have information that six persons have died," the officer said, adding the fire has been brought under control. Twelve people were admitted to different hospitals and six of them died during treatment at one of the hospital, the officer said, adding the rest were still undergoing treatment. Puri shopping complex fire under control, over 140 people rescued

The devastating blaze that broke out at a market complex near the Shree Jagannath Temple here was brought under control in a 24-hour-long fire-fighting operation on Thursday, while about 140 people were rescued, official sources said. The fire gutted almost all the 43 shops, a bank and a hotel that the Laxmi Market Complex consisted of. However, there was no casualty. Residents near Brahmapuram waste plant urged to stay indoors due to smoke

With air quality deteriorating at an alarming pace at Brahmapuram and its neighbourhoods due to the smoke emanating from the waste plant fire, the Kerala government on Thursday requested the residents in these areas to stay indoors and not to keep the windows and doors open. A massive fire broke out in a godown storing perfumery materials in Dombivali MIDC in Maharashtra's Thane district in the early hours of Thursday, an official said. Regional Disaster Management Cell chief Avinash Sawant said the fire started at 2 am and was doused completely at 8:30am, though there was no report of injuries to anyone. "Incidentally, a CNG station is located close to this godown. Eight fire engines from Dombivili MIDC, Kalyan, TMC, Ulhasnagar, Ambernath, NMMC, Taloja andC were deployed," he said. Major fire breaks out at Puri shopping complex, over 100 people rescued

A major fire broke out at a shopping complex in Odisha's Puri on Wednesday night, police said. The blaze was first spotted at a garments shop on the first floor of Laxmi Market Complex in Marichikot Chhak on Grand Road around 9 pm, they said. Some of the 40 shops at the shopping complex were gutted in the inferno, they said, adding that five fire tenders were working to douse the blaze. Three people, who were stuck on the roof of the building, were rescued in an unconscious state by the firefighters and rushed to the district hospital, police said. Plastic not to be dumped at Brahmapuram waste plant in Kochi: Kerala govt

The Kerala government on Wednesday decided that plastic will no longer be taken to the Brahmapuram waste plant where a fire, which broke out last week, is still smouldering leading to thick toxic smoke spreading out into the port-city of Kochi. The decision was taken in an emergency high-level meeting chaired by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in the wake of the fire at the plant, the CMO said in a statement. It was also decided in the meeting, that bio-waste will be disposed of at the source as much as possible and the window composting system for organic waste treatment will be repaired urgently, the statement said. The Chief Minister also suggested holding of meetings in which Ministers, people's representatives, including mayors, would participate to deal with the issue of waste management and disposal, it said.
