Striker Victor Osimhen's loan deal from Napoli to Galatasaray is announced

Victor Osimhen finally found a way out of Napoli when a loan deal with Turkish club Galatasaray was announced on Wednesday. Napoli said the deal lasts through the end of the season, and that Osimhen also extended his contract with the Italian club for one more year, through 2026-27. I'm excited to be here and I can't wait to see you at the stadium. Let's go, Osimhen said on Instagram while wearing a Galatasaray shirt inside his new ground. The Nigeria forward had been linked to Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Saudi club Al-Ahli in recent weeks and months but the transfer window in Europe's biggest leagues closed last week without a deal for him. The Turkish league transfer window doesn't close until Sept. 13 and Galatasaray suddenly needed help at center forward following an injury to Mauro Icardi. Fans lined the streets during the middle of the night when Osimhen arrived in Istanbul early Tuesday morning. Osimhen scored 26 goals when Napoli won Serie A in 2023, but he has also

Inter Miami confirms that their new stadiums will be available from 2026

Inter Miami revealed Wednesday that it will not open a long-awaited, oft-delayed new stadium near Miami International Airport until 2026. Jorge Mas, one of the team's owners, previously told multiple outlets that he was targeting a 2025 opening for the stadium. The team, in its announcement Wednesday, did not reveal any reason why the expected opening has changed. Legal challenges and logistical issues led to many other delays along the way; in 2018, for example, the team said it was hoping to play at the Miami stadium by the start of the 2022 season. Miami Freedom Park is the culmination of years of hard work and a desire to realize a vision and create a lasting legacy for the fans and the community of Miami and South Florida," said David Beckham, part of the team's ownership group. "I'm so happy to see that dream finally coming to life. The team joined Major League Soccer in 2020 and has played in a stadium in Fort Lauderdale since. The capacity of the stadium was expanded last y

"It's a nice feeling to be here, really, to be part of the ISL family. We did a great job last season. We played very well and won the I-League," coach Andre Chernyshov said during ISL Media Day interaction here. "It was our target last season (to be promoted to ISL). But I'm happier about our supporters because they waited for this moment for many years. Our club is 130-plus years old. Many supporters have waited for about 40 to 50 years for this." Uruguay's Luis Suarez announces his retirement from international football

Veteran striker Luis Surez announced his retirement from Uruguay's national team at the age of 37. The former Liverpool and Barcelona forward, Uruguay's all-time leading scorer with 69 goals in 142 matches, will play his last international game on Friday against Paraguay. "It hurts to say it, but Friday will be my last match with my country's national team," a tearful Surez said in a press conference at the Centenario Stadium on Monday. Uruguay hosts Paraguay in a World Cup qualifying match that day. Surez, who has played for Uruguay since 2007, said he believes it's the right time to retire. "I know that it is difficult for me to get to the next World Cup. Being retired by myself and not by injuries is very comforting," he said. Surez was in Uruguay's squad in four World Cups and five Copa America tournaments. He won the continental tournament 2011. The striker plays at Inter Miami with his close friend Lionel Messi and plans to continue his career at club level. The two played

Juventus draw Roma 0-0 to continue their unbeaten run in Serie A

For Thiago Motta's Juventus, it was a well-earned point that kept the Bianconeri unbeaten. For Daniele De Rossi's Roma, it was a step in the right direction after a difficult start to the season. Juventus was held to a 0-0 draw at home by Roma in Serie A on Sunday with each side producing only one shot on goal. Roma dominated the possession early on before Juventus grew more dangerous through Dusan Vlahovic. De Rossi kept former Juventus forward Paulo Dybala on the bench at the start then sent the Argentina international, who recently turned down an offer from Saudi Arabia, on midway through the second half. But Dybala produced little with both sides slowing down by then on a warm evening in Turin. Juventus moved level on seven points with defending champion Inter Milan, Torino and Udinese in Motta's first season since coming over from Bologna. Winless Roma, which was coming off a dispiriting defeat at home to Empoli, has two points in De Rossi's second campaign after replacing

German Cup: Bayern Munich vs Mainz, Dortmund vs Wolfsburg set for round 2

Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund were both handed potentially tricky games against fellow Bundesliga teams in the second-round draw for the German Cup. Bayern heads to Mainz, while Dortmund visits Wolfsburg, in the games to be played either Oct. 29 or 30. There are two other all-Bundesliga games as Leipzig hosts promoted St. Pauli and Eintracht Frankfurt plays Borussia Moenchengladbach. Bayer Leverkusen, which won the league and cup double last season, hosts second-division Elversberg. Leverkusen was knocked out in the first round by Elversberg in 2022. Of the 18 Bundesliga teams, only Bochum is missing from the second round after it lost 1-0 to second-tier Jahn Regensburg last month.

Mbappe's dry run continues, Real Madrid drops points against Las Palmas

Kylian Mbapp remained scoreless and defending champion Real Madrid settled for a 1-1 draw at Las Palmas in the Spanish league. Mbapp, Madrid's biggest signing in years, is yet to score in the league this season. His only goal with Madrid came in the team's UEFA Super Cup victory against Atalanta earlier this month. It was Vinicius Junior who scored for Madrid, which beat Valladolid 3-0 in the previous round but had opened its title defense with a 1-1 draw at Mallorca. It's been difficult for us to be as solid as we were last season, Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti said. We need to find a solution quickly, and I think we are going to find it. It has been harder than expected. These first three matches showed me a lot of things that have not been working well. Vinicius found the net for his first league goal this season by converting a 69th-minute penalty kick after a handball inside the area. The hosts had taken the lead five minutes into the match after Alberto Moleiro got past a co

Newcastle scores in 19 seconds to secure shootout victory in League Cup

Newcastle scored a goal inside 19 seconds and then won a penalty shootout against Nottingham Forest to advance in the English League Cup on Wednesday in a match featuring a comeback by Italy midfielder Sandro Tonali after a 10-month gambling ban. Tonali was involved in the buildup to Newcastle's extremely early goal scored by Joe Willock at the City Ground and played 62 minutes before being substituted, by which time Forest had equalized through Jota Silva. The second-round game finished 1-1 in regulation time and went immediately to a shootout, during which Newcastle came from behind to win it 4-3 after misses by Ibrahim Sangare and Taiwo Awoniyi for Forest. Sean Longstaff converted the clinching penalty. In another all-Premier League matchup, Jarrod Bowen unwittingly scored a controversial goal in the 88th minute to earn West Ham a 1-0 home win over Bournemouth. A shot by Mohammed Kudus appeared to deflect in off the arm of Bowen. The goal was awarded and with no video reviews at
