The online gaming sector is a rapidly growing industry that has potential of contributing significantly to the country's goal of becoming a USD 1 trillion digital economy, generating substantial employment, and fostering innovation, a report said. In process of finalising online gaming regulation, Centre tells Delhi HC

The Centre on Monday told the Delhi High Court that the draft regulation in relation to online gaming has been circulated and it is in the process of finalising the same. The statement was made by the central government counsel before a bench of Chief Justice Satish Chandra and Justice Subramonium Prasad. The Centre's lawyer informed the court which was hearing petitions by Atul Batra and Avinash Mehrotra concerning the regulation of online gaming -- that consultations with the stakeholders have begun. The Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) on Thursday said the draft IT Rules on online gaming are "right on intention but poor on scoping". While the proposed rules are a "very positive development" for the online gaming industry ecosystem for three reasons including creating a legal framework for orderly and accelerated development of the industry, the "scoping of the rules has been done poorly" and the some aspects need a "major re-look", the industry body said.
