Aviation regulator DGCA called an urgent meeting with Indigo and GoAir on Wednesday to review the performance of the Airbus Neo aircraft in their fleets. According to sources, the issues related to the A320 Neo aircraft's Pratt & Whitney (P&W) engine -- which both the airlines haves been facing for years -- will be discussed at the meeting. The two budget carriers have been facing glitches in the P&W engine that powers many of their A320 planes. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has also requested P&W to supply spare engines to the airlines to expedite the process of replacing the old engines. Currently, there are around 400 A320 neo planes flying with the old engines worldwide. Out of these, 120 to 130 aircraft are flown by IndiGo and GoAir, the sources said. IndiGo has 79 A320 neos, five A321 neos, 134 A320s and 18 ATRs in its fleet of 236 aircraft. GoAir operates 35 A320 neos and 16 A320s. The P&W engine-powered A320 neo planes in the fleets of ...

A GoAir aircraft flying to Kolkata Wednesday experienced problems with Pratt & Whitney engine and returned to Ahmedabad, according to a source. This is the latest incident of a P&W engine-powered A320 neo plane facing problems. Such aircraft have been grappling with issues and aviation regulator DGCA has issued various directives to address them. The source said the A320 neo plane, powered by P&W engines, suffered vibrations mid-air and the aircraft was forced to return to Ahmedabad airport in the morning. In a statement, P&W said it worked closely with GoAir to address the event with the A320 neo Ahmedabad-Kolkata flight that operated this morning. "Post landing, investigations confirmed engine performance during the flight was good. The incident did not require an air turn back and the aircraft is back in service now," it said. A query sent to GoAir regarding the incident did not elicit any response. On January 8, the Civil Aviation Ministry reviewed the performance .

The recurring glitches on the Pratt & Whitney-powered Airbus planes have forced the Wadia group-run budget carrier Goair to ground as many as seven A320 Neos, a source said Monday. The city-headquartered airline has 49 planes in the fleet and 30 of them are Airbus A320 Neos. Notably, the civil aviation ministry is set review the frequent on-ground and mid-air glitches that the P&W engines, powering these planes, have been facing soon after their induction in early 2016. "Goair is unable to operate seven of its A320 Neos due to the P&W engine problems. Currently, these planes are grounded and awaiting engine replacements," a source close to the development told PTI. Most of these aircraft are grounded in Mumbai while some are parked in Delhi, the source said. A Goair spokesperson was not available for comments and queries sent to P&W remained unanswered. P&W engine woes had forced both Goair and the larger rival IndiGo (which operates 57 of such planes)
