Gujarat attracting big investments since automobile sector took off in 2009

Gujarat's automobile sector took off in 2009 when Tata Motors set up its Nano manufacturing plant in Sanand, about 50 km from Ahmedabad, and the state has been attracting some big ticket investments from both domestic and international players since then. Now, with the global shift tending towards electric mobility, the Gujarat government seeks to position itself as a leading electric vehicles (EV) manufacturing hub. To this effect, it signed an MoU with the Tata Group worth Rs 13,000 crore in June this year. The 10th edition of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit will be held from Jan 10 to 12, 2024 in Gandhinagar. The biennial summit serves as a platform for businesses and governments to explore investment opportunities and establish partnerships. 13 states, UTs among 'achievers' in logistics performance index: DPIIT

Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Chandigarh, and Gujarat are among the 13 states and Union Territories that have again been categorised as "achievers" in the logistics index chart 2023, according to a report released by the Commerce and Industry Ministry on Saturday. The index is an indicator of the efficiency of logistical services necessary for promoting exports and economic growth. As against 15 states and UTs, this year the number has reduced to 13 as Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand have slipped into "aspirers" and "fast movers" categories, respectively, this year. Steps taken by Sikkim and Tripura have helped them move up the ladder to the "achievers" category from "fast movers" in 2022. Chip maker Micron Technology's decision to set up a $2.75-billion plant at Sanand near Ahmedabad indicates that Gujarat's dedicated semiconductor policy is bearing fruit and attracting global players, the state government has said. Gujarat had in July last year announced a dedicated policy to draw new investments in the semiconductor sector by offering incentives and subsidies to start operations in the state. The Gujarat Semiconductor Policy', unveiled by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, will remain in force till 2027. The policy has been designed in line with the Centre's India Semiconductor Mission' to attract and facilitate new projects in the sector, the government said in a release. Procurement from govt's GeM portal may reach Rs 3.5 trillion this fiscal

The procurement of goods and services from the government portal GeM is expected to touch Rs 3.5 lakh crore by the end of this fiscal due to higher buying activities by various ministries and departments, a senior government official said. The government e-Market (GeM) portal was launched on August 9, 2016, for online purchases of goods and services by all the central government ministries and departments. "As of today, the procurement has reached Rs 2.4 lakh crore and going by the trend, the procurement this fiscal will reach close to Rs 3.50 lakh crore, hopefully," GeM CEO P K Singh told reporters here. In 2021-22, the procurement value stood at Rs 1.06 lakh crore. It crossed Rs 2 lakh crore last year. Singh said that the share of central public sector enterprises (CPSEs) in the total buying of goods and services is increasing at a healthy rate. "Company has incorporated a wholly-owned subsidiary company in the name of Sunrays Infra Space Two Ltd (SISTL) on 13th December 2023," a BSE filing said. The authorised and paid-up share capital of Sunrays Infra Space Two Ltd is Rs one lakh each. It is incorporated by Adani Energy Solutions Limited for transmission, distribution and supply of power and other infrastructure services relating thereto. The equity shares are acquired at a face value of Rs 10 each for cash consideration with 100 per cent shareholding. Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages plans to invest Rs 3,000 crore in Gujarat

Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages (HCCB) Ltd -- the bottling arm of beverage major Coca Cola in India -- on Wednesday said it is planning to invest Rs 3,000 crore in Gujarat to set up a state-of-the-art facility to manufacture juice and aerated beverages in Rajkot, which is projected to commence operations in 2026. "The investment is expected to create a considerable industrial footprint, fostering substantial economic and social growth in the region," HCCB said in a statement. "The Government of Gujarat, in turn, has assured comprehensive support to facilitate HCCB in obtaining all necessary permissions, registrations, approvals, and clearances, in a time-bound manner," said an HCCB statement. USFDA issues Form 483 with 5 observations to Torrent Pharma's Guj unit

Torrent Pharmaceuticals Ltd on Tuesday said the US health regulator has issued Form 483 with five procedural observations after inspecting its oral manufacturing facility situated at Bileshwarpura in Gujarat. As per the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA), Form 483 is issued to a firm's management at the conclusion of an inspection when the investigator has observed any conditions that may constitute violations of the Food Drug and Cosmetic (FD&C) Act and related Acts. The USFDA conducted a pre-approval Inspection at the company's oral manufacturing facility situated in Bileshwarpura, Gujarat from December 5 to 11, 2023, Torrent Pharma said in a regulatory filing. AMNS India plans Rs 100 cr capital infusion on 3 scrap processing centres

Gujarat-based AMNS India is planning to set up three scrap processing centres at a capital infusion of around Rs 100 crore. The company plans to set up two centres at Hazira and Ahmedabad in Gujarat, and one in Khopoli, Maharashtra, a company official said on Thursday. ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel (AMNS) India is a 60:40 joint venture between Luxembourg-based global steel giant ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel of Japan. When asked about the timeline, the official said as per the plan submitted to the board of AMNS India, all the three centres are to be set up by 2024. The company owns and operates a 9 million tonne (MT) plant at Hazira where it uses 3-5 per cent of scrap to manufacture steel. AMNS India aims to increase its scrap mix-up to 9-10 per cent with the set up of the centres. 16 countries onboard to be partners for Vibrant Gujarat event: Officials

As many as 16 countries and 14 organisations have so far confirmed to be partners for the upcoming 10th edition of Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit next month, officials said Wednesday. Suzuki Motor Gujarat unit crosses 3 mn cumulative production milestone

Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) on Wednesday said its Gujarat-based unit has crossed 30 lakh cumulative production milestone. Suzuki Motor Gujarat (SMG) has surpassed the milestone within a span of around 6 years and 11 months since commencing operations in February 2017, MSI said in a statement. SMG has an annual production capacity of 7.5 lakh units and the vehicles manufactured at the plant are sold in both domestic as well as export markets. "With the acquisition of Suzuki Motor Gujarat, we are further enhancing our production flexibility. The production of our battery electric vehicles will also be undertaken at the Gujarat plant and is expected to start in FY 2024-25," MSI MD and CEO Hisashi Takeuchi stated. Currently, the facility rolls out some of the popular models like Swift, Baleno, Dzire and Fronx.
