PM Modi greets WHO DG ahead of global summit on traditional medicine

World Health Organisation's Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus arrived in Gujarat on Wednesday to attend a global summit on traditional medicine and was accorded a warm welcome. The Ayush Ministry shared a video of him joining a 'dandia' event which was held to greet him. Reacting to the video, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, "My good friend Tulsi Bhai is clearly well prepared for Navratri! Welcome to India, @DrTedros." Dandia, a traditional dance form, is held during Navratri celebrations in Gujarat. Modi had on an earlier occasion addressed him endearingly with 'Tulsi Bhai'. "Delighted to be in India for the WHO Traditional Medicine Global Summit, the Ministerial Meeting on Ending TB in WHO South East Asia and the G20 Health Ministers Meeting. CCEA approves 7 multi-tracking projects to increase railway network

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs on Wednesday approved seven multi-tracking projects of Indian Railways at an estimated cost of around Rs 32,500 crore, Union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said. The proposed projects will help increase the existing line capacity, smoothen train operations, reduce congestion and facilitate ease of travelling and transportation. The projects covering 35 districts in nine states -- Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Odisha, Jharkhand and West Bengal -- will increase the existing network of Indian Railways by 2,339 km.

FinMin to hold Chintan Shivir in Gujarat, discusses roadmap for India 2047

The finance ministry will organise a two-day Chintan Shivir in Gujarat starting from August 20 to discuss various issues, including the roadmap for India to become a developed nation by 2047, officials said on Monday. Secretaries and senior officials from the six departments in the finance ministry and the corporate affairs ministry will attend the two-day session that will be held at Kevadia. Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman will address the meeting on August 21. The Chintan Shivir, which is being held days before the G20 Leaders' Summit, will also see separate sessions on various agenda being pursued under India's Presidency. Hi-Tech Pipes Q1 net profit grows around 80% to Rs 8 cr, revenue up 24%

Hi-Tech Pipes has reported around an 80 per cent rise in its net profit to Rs 8.02 crore during the quarter ended June 30, mainly due to higher revenues. It had clocked Rs 4.48 crore net profit during the April-June period of the preceding 2022-23 fiscal, the company said in a statement on Monday. The company's revenue from operations also rose 24 per cent to Rs 642.17 crore in Q1 FY24 from Rs 516.17 crore in the year-ago quarter. Its total sales volumes increased to 84.5 thousand tonnes over 70 thousand tonnes in Q1FY23. "The company has registered sales volume growth of 21 per cent. This volume growth has been majorly contributed by increased sales of value-added products like GP coils, colour-coated coils and sheets. Gujarat minister writes to Rajasthan govt over its plans to build two dams

Amid a row over reports suggesting that Congress-ruled Rajasthan is planning to build two dams upstream of the Dharoi dam, the Gujarat government has registered its protests saying the project would violate a water-sharing agreement. Gujarat Water Resources Minister Kunvarji Bavaliya told reporters on Friday he has written to the Rajasthan government over its plans to build dams on Sabarmati and Sei rivers near the border of both states. Concerns have been expressed that if such a plan is implemented, the Dharoi dam won't get any water. According to Bavaliya, Rajasthan should adhere to the water-sharing agreement signed when Dharoi dam on Sabarmati river was built in Mehsana district of Gujarat over 40 years ago. While Sabarmati river originates from Rajasthan, Sei river is a tributary which eventually merges with Sabarmati before it enters north Gujarat, where Dharoi dam is situated. DFPCL to invest Rs 1,950 cr to expand Gujarat plant's nitric acid capacity

Deepak Fertilisers and Petrochemicals Corporation Ltd (DFPCL) on Thursday said it will expand the Nitric Acid capacity at Dahej, in Gujarat at a cost of Rs 1,950 crore. The Board has approved a proposal to set up a Weak Nitric Acid (WNA) plant with a capacity of 300 kilo tonnes per annum (KTPA) and two Concentrated Nitric Acid (CNA) plants with a total capacity of 150 KTPA, a statement said. The company said the new plants will be set up within the existing Nitric Acid complex of DFPCL Dahej in Gujarat as adequate land is available for the proposed construction. "The total project cost is estimated to be approximately Rs 1,950 crore including pre-operative expenses, contingencies, and finance cost during the construction period," it said. The company will be implementing state of the art technology from leading global technology providers for the brownfield expansion. Court reserves order on summons to Tejashwi Yadav in defamation case

A metropolitan court in Ahmedabad has reserved its order for the last week of this month on the issuance of summons to Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav in a criminal defamation case over his remarks only Gujaratis can be thugs. Exim Bank launches Finserve at GIFT City to offer trade finance products

Exim Bank on Tuesday said it has launched subsidiary Exim Finserve at the Gujarat International Financial Tec-City (GIFT City) to offer a comprehensive range of trade finance products to Indian exporters. Exim Finserve will provide a combination of three essential services to exporters: receivables financing, coverage of the risk of non-payment and management of accounts receivable, Exim Bank said in a release. Exim Finserve, or India Exim Finserve IFSC Private Limited, will extend a range of trade finance products to Indian exporters, with a primary focus on export factoring, it said. "This would lead to improved cash flow and reduced payment risk for exporters, enabling them to confidently explore new markets and seize growth opportunities. Indian Banks' Association constitutes sectoral committee in GIFT City

The Indian Banks' Association (IBA) has constituted a sectoral committee for member banks operating within the Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City), the association said on Tuesday. The inaugural meeting of the committee took place in GIFT City on Tuesday. IBA has constituted the Sectoral Committee to address the unique regulatory landscape and challenges faced by banks operating within GIFT City. The committee will act as a bridge between the banking industry and regulators, ensuring that concerns and perspectives are effectively communicated and addressed, a release said. Pradipsinh Vaghela, one of the four general secretaries of BJP in Gujarat, has resigned on personal grounds, his party colleague said on Saturday and added the resignation has been accepted. BJP general secretary Rajni Patel also said no complaint was received against Vaghela and he remains a party worker. Patel dismissed as "baseless" some reports claiming that Vaghela has been barred from entering the BJP's state headquarters 'Kamalam'. "Pradipsinh Vaghela worked actively as a state general secretary. He resigned due to personal reasons and his resignation has been accepted," Patel said. The Adani group will make investments to expand the captive port capacity of Sanghipuram to handle vessel sizes of 8,000 DWT (deadweight tonnage), said Adani Ports and Special Economic Zones (APSEZ) CEO Karan Adani on Thursday. Adani Group firm Ambuja Cements on Thursday said it will acquire a majority stake in Sanghi Industries Ltd (SIL), one of the leading cement manufacturers from western India, at an enterprise value of Rs 5,000 crore. As per the deal, Ambuja Cements, a part of Adani Cement, which holds the cement business of port-to-power conglomerate Adani group, will acquire 56.74 per cent shares of SIL from its existing promoter group - Ravi Sanghi & family. Social activist Teesta Setalvad on Monday moved Gujarat High Court to quash an FIR filed against her by the city crime branch for allegedly fabricating evidence in the 2002 riots cases. A sessions court had recently rejected her discharge plea in the case, even as the Supreme Court granted her bail after the Gujarat High Court denied her relief. Maruti Suzuki to acquire Suzuki Motor Gujarat from Japanese parent co

Marut Suzuki India on Monday said its board has approved the acquisition of the entire stake in Suzuki Motor Gujarat from Japan-based parent Suzuki Motor Corporation. Currently, Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC) owns a 100 per cent stake in Suzuki Motor Gujarat (SMG) which supplies its entire production to Maruti Suzuki. Maruti Suzuki board in its meeting held on Monday approved the termination of the contract manufacturing agreement with SMG, the auto major said in a regulatory filing. The company's board also approved to exercise the option to acquire SMG stake from SMC subject to all legal and regulatory compliances including minority shareholders' approval. The auto major expects to complete the transaction by March 31, 2024. It noted that the mode of acquisition including consideration to be paid to SMC shall be decided in a subsequent board meeting.
