India captain Harmanpreet Kaur described her team's narrow four-run defeat to England as "heartbreaking", admitting that despite dominating large parts of the contest, they once again failed to cross the finish line in Women's World Cup group encounter here on Sunday. With Smriti Mandhana going strong on 88 and India needing just 56 runs off 54 balls and seven wickets in hand, they appeared on course for victory. But England fought back brilliantly to clinch their fourth successive win and confirm a semifinal berth alongside Australia and South Africa. "Smriti's wicket was the turning point for us. It's a heartbreaking moment," Harmanpreet said at the post-match presentation. It was all under control while Mandhana and Harmanpreet were in the middle, but neither could anchor the chase. Earlier Heather Knight's 109 anchored England's total of 288/8 before India finished agonisingly short at 284/6. Left-arm spinner Linsey Smith triggered the collapse, removing the elegant left-hande
India will be looking to win their first senior women's ICC trophy under the leadership of Harmanpreet Kaur
I hope we give our 100 per cent and break that final barrier we have all been waiting for, says India captain Harmanpreet Kaur ahead of ICC Women's World Cup 2025
India and Mumbai Indians' captain Harmanpreet Kaur believes the upcoming edition of the Women's Premier League will play a big role in preparation for the ODI World Cup which the country is hosting later this year. She also said that the India U-19 women's team has set a new benchmark with their second T20 World Cup title win in Malaysia recently. "This WPL is going to play a very big role because this year we have ODI World Cup. After the WPL, we have a very good window where we can work on our fitness," Kaur told the media during Mumbai Indians' pre-season press conference here on Wednesday. "Our U-19 team is setting a benchmark with back-to-back trophies and it's a very proud moment for all of us," she added. India legend Jhulan Goswami, MI's bowling coach and team mentor, said their side has a "quality core team" for WPL and domestic players have also been impressive. "All of them are very quality (players), they have done very well in domestic cricket and they have performed
India captain Harmanpreet Kaur made it to the Women's T20 World Cup 2024 team of the tournament dominated by players from finalists New Zealand and South Africa on the back of her strong batting show. New Zealand won their maiden Women's T20 World Cup title after beating South Africa by 32 runs in the summit clash on Sunday. In an otherwise disappointing campaign for India, who failed to make it to the semifinals, skipper Kaur was the standout performer for the Women in Blue. She finished as India's top scorer and the fourth-highest overall in the tournament, amassing 150 runs in four innings. With two fifties to her name, she boasted an incredible average of 150. Her strike rate of 133.92 was the fifth-best in the tournament. Kaur's quick-fire 52 off 27 balls against Sri Lanka was crucial in keeping India's hopes alive for a semifinal spot. Champions New Zealand have three members in the world team announced by the ICC on Monday, including 12th player Eden Carson, while runners-u
"It was one of those days when I was in the zone," said India captain Harmanpreet Kaur after smashing her fastest fifty in T20 Internationals here on Wednesday. Harmanpreet, who has been battling inconsistency, was at her belligerent best against Sri Lanka in a Women's T20 World Cup match. She completed her half-century off 27 balls and on the last delivery of India's innings. Her previous fastest fifty -- off 29 balls -- also came against Sri Lanka back in 2018. India won the game by 82 runs after posting 172 for three, the highest total of the World Cup thus far. "It was one of those days where I was in my zone, I was thinking positively and hitting anything that was in my zone. These wickets aren't very true for batting. "You have to keep rotating strike and only when the ball is in the zone can you swing your bat," the India captain said post the big win. The 98-run stand between Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma laid the platform for a big total. "We just wanted to go with t

Indian players have been working on their mental strength for a "long time" which should help the team in overcoming hurdles, says skipper Harmanpreet Kaur ahead of the upcoming women's T20 World Cup next month. India, who finished as runner-up in the 2020 edition of the tournament, are placed in Group A along with six-time winners and defending champions Australia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and New Zealand. Kaur said on Monday that the Indian players have been working on the mental aspect to bring out their best in crucial moments. "We have been working on mental strength for a long time. The last 3-4 overs are the most crucial. T20 cricket is not a small format; at the end of the day, you are playing 40 overs," Kaur told Star Sports. "In the last 4-5 overs, the team that is mentally strong wins the match. We have been focusing on this for a while. If we can remain mentally stable in those final five overs, we can execute what's best for us." India's performances in summit clashes have

Buoyant India will look to extend their winning run and seal a semifinal berth when they face Nepal in their final Group A Women's T20 Asia Cup match here on Tuesday. India registered convincing wins in their first two matches of the continental tournament, beating traditional rivals Pakistan and United Arab Emirates by seven wickets and 78 runs respectively to put one foot in the semifinals. Minnows Nepal hardly have any time to recover from the thrashing they received at the hands of Pakistan in their previous outing on Sunday, the same day when the tournament's overwhelming favourites and defending champions India bulldozed the hapless Emirates side. While India are primed to enter the last-four, Pakistan improved their net run rate with the comfortable win over Nepal lifting them to the second spot in Group A. India will, however, not be bothered by how the other teams are doing and will look to sustain the momentum they have gained with two convincing victories heading into th

Mumbai Indians skipper Harmanpreet Kaur said on Thursday that the defending champions have been trying to keep their own expectation level to a minimum and focus on the WPL opener against Delhi Capitals. Mumbai will face-off with Delhi here on Friday in a repeat of the last year's final, which was held in Mumbai. "We just kept our preparations very simple. We are trying not to expect too much from ourselves and doing too many things. That was our approach last year too and we want to continue that. We are feeling very confident going into this match and tournament," said Harmanpreet in her pre-match press meet. One reason for that, Harmanpreet felt, was the Mumbai Indians' extensive pre-tournament camp held in their home turf. "We used the facilities in Mumbai ahead of the WPL. We played a few practice games as well, so that we could try some new combinations and the players too get a chance to work upon their game. "We feel that we are ready for the game. Last year, we had to do
