60% households earning Rs 5 lakh+ live in top 150 Indian districts: Report

The majority of housholds with an annual income of Rs 5 lakh and above are concentrated in the top 20 per cent, or about 150, districts in the country, a report by MapmyIndia-backed data analytics firm ClarityX said on Tuesday. The ClarityX District Potential Index 2024 Report based on MapmyIndia data repository and government data sources, found that luminosity across the county grew significantly from 17 to 30 per cent in last four years. "60 per cent of households with annual income above Rs 5 lakh are in the top 20 per cent (about 150) districts of India, and two-third of the total districts above All-India District median are in the western region -- which also has the highest share of fastest growing districts," the report said. Kolkata rape-murder: Doctors continue stir, healthcare services affected

Healthcare services remained affected across West Bengal for the tenth consecutive day on Sunday as agitating junior doctors at state-run hospitals continued their cease-work demanding justice for the woman doctor who was raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital here. As the outpatient departments (OPDs) at government hospitals are closed on Sundays, the rush was less even as senior doctors were attending the emergency department to provide treatment to the visiting patients. "We are not for affecting healthcare services. We can understand the problems faced by the patients but our protest is very relevant in this context when an on-duty doctor was raped and murdered. Is this what we expect while coming to work? We will continue with our protest till our sister gets justice and the government arranges total security for us," an agitating doctor told PTI. 'CM's pharmacy stores' on anvil to make generic medicines available: Stalin

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Thursday announced launching pharmacy outlets 'Mudalvar Marunthagam,' (Chief Minister's Pharmacy) soon to ensure the availability of generic and other medicines at low cost to the people. In his Independence Day address, Stalin said over 75,000 openings in the government sector will be filled by January 2026. The Chief Minister's pharmacy scheme will be launched next year, on the day of Pongal, the harvest festival, (January 14, 2025) and as many as 1,000 pharmacy outlets will be opened in the first phase. In order to effectively implement the scheme, pharmacists and cooperative societies will be provided by the government necessary credit facilities and Rs 3 lakh subsidy, he said. Also, he announced 'Mudalvarin Kakkum Karangal' scheme for the benefit of retired personnel of the armed forces. Under the scheme, the retired personnel will get a loan of up to Rs 1 crore to launch business ventures.

Eureka Forbes Ltd Q1FY25 results: Net profit up 26.4% at Rs 32.15 cr

Health and hygiene products maker Eureka Forbes Ltd on Thursday reported a 26.37 per cent increase in its consolidated net profit to Rs 32.15 crore for the first quarter ending June. The company had posted a net profit of Rs 25.44 crore in the April-June quarter a year ago, according to a regulatory filing by the firm now controlled by private equity firm Advent International. Its revenue from operation was up 9.61 per cent to Rs 553.37 crore during the quarter under review. It was at Rs 504.81 crore in the corresponding quarter. Eureka Forbes' total expenses increased 8.77 per cent to Rs 512.53 crore in the June quarter. Total income of Eureka Forbes was up 9.64 per cent at Rs 555.71 crore in the June quarter. Commenting on the results, Eureka Forbes MD and CEO Pratik Pota said: "Despite a muted demand environment, we are pleased to report the third successive quarter of double-digit growth in our continuing business. National full immunisation coverage at 93.5%; Lakshadweep, J-K top list

The national full immunisation coverage for 2023-24 was 93.50 per cent, with Lakshadweep and Jammu and Kashmir topping the list, according to the Source Health Management Information System. In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, Union Minister of State for Health Prataprao Jadhav said Lakshadweep (108.79 per cent) and Jammu and Kashmir (108.66 per cent) were followed by Telangana (106.13 per cent), Delhi (105.03 per cent), Andhra Pradesh (101.26 per cent), Mizoram (101.10 per cent) and Maharashtra (101.04 per cent). Immunisation coverage was above 95 per cent in West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Tripura, Meghalaya, Karnataka, Jharkhand Gujarat, Chandigarh and Chhattisgarh during this period. The coverage was the lowest in Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu at 48.03 per cent. According to health ministry sources, some states and Union territories had figures higher than 100 per cent because of increased coverage by catch-up campaigns such as Intensified Mission Indradhan

Max Healthcare Q1 results: Net profit increases marginally to Rs 295 cr

Max Healthcare Institute on Thursday said its profit after tax rose marginally to Rs 295 crore for the first quarter ended June 30, 2024. The healthcare firm had reported a profit after tax of Rs 291 crore in the April-June quarter of last fiscal. Gross revenue increased to Rs 2,028 crore for the period under review from Rs 1,719 crore in the year-ago period, Max Healthcare Institute said in a statement. "With the launch of Max Super Specialty Hospital, Dwarka, we have added over 900 beds to our capacity so far and have successfully supplemented the momentum of growth in revenues and profitability before augmentation of bed capacity through brownfield expansion plans in FY26," Max Healthcare Institute Chairman and Managing Director Abhay Soi stated. Rajasthan health dept issues advisory after Chandipura virus patient found

The Rajasthan Medical and Health Department on Tuesday issued a detailed advisory to take precautions and ensure necessary management after a Chandipura virus patient was found in Dungarpur district of the state. Medical and Health Minister Gajendra Singh Khinvsar instructed the authorities to take necessary steps to prevent this disease from spreading after a Chandipura virus patient was found in the state. The department has instructed the principals of all the medical colleges of the state, chief medical and health officers and chief medical officers to ensure necessary action according to the advisory.
