Union minister Nitin Gadkari will inaugurate and lay the foundation of highway projects worth Rs 4,000 crore in Odisha on Thursday, an official release said. The National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) has ordered an interim payment of 75 per cent of the total amount deposited in an escrow account to lenders of Baleshwar Kharagpur Expressway Limited (BKEL), promoted by IL&FS Transportation Networks Ltd (ITNL). Passing an order over the plea filed by the State Bank of India, NCLAT said it failed to see any reasonable grounds for not taking any decision by the Board for an interim distribution, as per the Concession Agreement and the Escrow Agreement. "Interim distribution shall be made to the lenders of 75 per cent of the amount lying in the escrow account as per the Escrow Agreement," said NCLAT in its order. The balance amount is to be used for operations, maintenance and other payments. However, it added: "Lenders shall also give an undertaking for a refund of the amount received, in the event ultimately, it is found that they were not entitled to the extent of the amount received by them." Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Monday visited sites in Raigad district to review the pending work on the Mumbai-Goa Highway ahead of the Ganesh Chaturthi festival. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday said the Centre has sanctioned an allocation of Rs 6,621.62 crore for construction of the ambitious frontier highway in Arunachal Pradesh. The allocation has been made for the construction of eight packages on National Highway 913 (Frontier Highway), transitioning to an intermediate lane configuration using the EPC mode, the minister said. The project spans a total length of 265.49 kilometres. Encompassed within this initiative are packages 1, 3 and 5 covering the Huri-Taliha section, two packages addressing the Bile-Migging section, packages 2 and 4 managing the Kharsang-Miao-Gandhigram-Vijaynagar section, and package 1 focusing on the Bomdila-Nafra-Lada section, the transport minister said. The development of these highway stretches holds promise for enhanced connectivity to border areas, fostering socio-economic growth in the state, he said. The Centre has sanctioned Rs 1,782 crore for construction of a strategic road project in Arunachal Pradesh, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said on Wednesday. The ministry sanctioned the project for the construction of the 82-kilometre-long greenfield road from Pango to Jorging in Upper Siang district of the northeastern state. The project would encompass package-1 and II, Gadkari said on X. "The proposed project aims to ensure seamless and secure traffic flow, establishing year-round connectivity to the villages in the region, thereby catalyzing socio-economic development in the hilly areas of the district", the minister said.
