WAP urges Indian travellers to avoid Bali's animal entertainment venues
A global animal protection body has urged Indian travellers to avoid visiting animal entertainment venues in Bali, while citing its latest report which found such sites in the tropical paradise to be "living hell" for animals. According to the 'Wildlife Abusement Parks' report by the World Animal Protection (WAP), all wildlife tourism entertainment venues in Bali with captive elephants, tigers, dolphins or civet cats fail to meet even the basic needs of wild animals in captivity. It said with around 2,72,761 tourists, India ranked third on the list of countries that have tourists visiting Bali in 2017. The report details the results of an investigation into 26 wildlife tourism venues in Bali, Lombok and Gili Trawangan that house 1,500 wild animals, including elephants, dolphins and orangutans. Union Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore today urged cricketer Virat Kohli and actor Hrithik Roshan to join a social media campaign that seeks to encourage people to keep fit -- and posted a video that showed the minister doing push-ups to press home the point. Delhi HC turns down IHCL's plea against auction of Taj Mansingh Hotel
The Delhi High Court on Tuesday dismissed the plea of Tata Group-owned Indian Hotels Company Ltd (IHCL), challenging the tender procedure of the proposed auction of Delhi's Taj Mansingh Hotel by the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC).Earlier, the court had dismissed the IHCL's plea against the auctioning of its iconic Taj Mansingh property in New Delhi by NDMC.The property, owned by NDMC, was given to IHCL on a lease of 33 years, post which IHCL was running the property on several temporary extensions.The Tata group-run Indian Hotels Company had filed an appeal with a divisional bench of the High Court against the September 5 order of the single judge bench of the Delhi High Court that allowed the public auction of Mansingh hotel.

Sherpa guide dies of head injuries on Everest
An experienced sherpa guide has died after falling into a crevasse on Everest, officials said today, the fourth confirmed fatality of the spring climbing season on the world's highest mountain. Damai Sarki Sherpa, 37, was helping a foreign climber to a rescue helicopter at Everest's Camp Two when he slipped and fell more than 60 metres. He was pulled out alive but suffered severe head injuries and was airlifted from the 6,474-metre location last evening. Poor visibility forced the helicopter to land in Namche Bazaar, a town in the Everest region that lacks proper medical facilities, where the guide died overnight. "He was rescued but had a very bad head injury. He died last night," Gyanendra Shrestha, a government official at Everest base camp, told AFP. No 'Vegetarian Day' on Gandhi Jayanti, clarifies Indian Railways
After reports surfaced that the Indian Railway Board will mark the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti as a 'Vegetarian Day', the Indian Railways on Monday clarified that no such move was made and non-vegetarian food will also be served to the passengers."Some media reports are mentioning that Railway will observe a total Vegetarian day on 2nd October. This is not true. We are not restricting non-veg food and passengers can opt for the same. Nepal today launched a new website in Chinese language in order to facilitate an increasing number of tourists from China who are visiting the Himalayan nation. The Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) has developed its website to inform Chinese tourists about major tourist destinations in the country. Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Rabindra Adhikari inaugurated the NTB website in Chinese that contains information about tourist destinations of all the seven provinces across Nepal.
