The Goa unit of Congress on Tuesday accused state's Tourism Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar of wasting public money on a jaunt to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) along with members of his family.
Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao Tuesday asked officials to prepare an integrated plan of action for completion of the construction and maintenance of barrages and pump houses under the Kaleswaram irrigation project. Rao, who held a meeting with officials on the progress of construction of the project (on Godavari river), instructed that residential quarters for engineering and other staff be built at the camp sites of the projects, a release from his office said Tuesday night. He suggested that watch tower, staff residential quarters be constructed at the maximum height to HFL (high flood level) so as to shield them from river flow. Rao enquired about the progress of construction of canals for filling water in the ponds. He was told about the plan to install 3,000 conduits for every canal to fill tanks, the release added.

A Delhi court on Tuesday allowed Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, facing charges in the Sunanda Pushkar death case, to travel to the US in May.Tharoor, who is seeking re-election from Thiruvananthapuram parliamentary constituency, had moved an application in the court of Special Judge Arun Bhardwaj, seeking permission to travel to the US for attending a conference and other events from May 5 to May 20.The application was allowed by the court.Tharoor, a former Union minister and husband of Pushkar, is currently on bail and needs court's prior permission to travel abroad.Pushkar was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a suite of a Delhi hotel on the night of January 17, 2014. The couple was staying in the hotel as their house was undergoing renovation.Tharoor has been charged under sections 306 (abetment to suicide) and 498A (husband or his relative subjecting a woman to cruelty) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). He has dismissed the charges as "preposterous".
Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena has assured hoteliers that the government will give them maximum financial relief to revive the lucrative tourism industry hit by the country's worst terror attack on Easter Sunday that killed 253 people, including 40 foreigners. A Jaipur-based cardiologist covered a distance of around 80 km on a cycle to cast his vote in Tonk-Sawaimadhopur Lok Sabha seat in Rajasthan on Monday. G L Sharma is a resident of Soda village in Tonk district and runs a hospital in Jaipur. He travelled from Jaipur to a polling booth in his village on a cycle to cast his vote Monday. "This was just to create awareness for polling and good health. It took me four hours to reach my village," Sharma said. The doctor also advised people to do cycling for good health. A woman tourist from Himachal Pradesh was found killed at a plush hotel in Goa with police suspecting her absconding husband's involvement in the crime, an official said on Sunday. Alka Saini, who belonged to Himachal Pradesh, and her husband checked into the hotel, located at Arpora beach village in North Goa district, on April 20, Anjuna police station inspector Navlesh Desai said. Saini's body was found on Saturday when the hotel's maintenance staff entered the room to clean it, he said. "The woman's throat was found slit," he said. Her husband was absconding and a search for him was underway, Desai said, refusing to divulge any further details and the suspect's identity.
