Malaysia climber at hospital after 2 days alone on Annapurna
A Malaysian mountain climber was being treated in a hospital in Nepal's capital Friday after being stranded nearly two days alone near the summit of Annapurna. A helicopter crew searching for the missing climber on Thursday spotted Wui Kin Chin waving his hands at them, and rescuers brought him down to a lower camp. At the time of his rescue, Chin had been without an oxygen bottle, food and water for over 40 hours, said Mingma Sherpa, the head of Seven Summit Treks, which arranged his expedition. Chin was flown to the capital, Kathmandu, on Friday and taken to a hospital, where his wife joined him. Chin is an anesthesiologist and accomplished climber, and Sherpa credited Chin's medical knowledge and familiarity with mountains for keeping him alive. Number of Indian tourists who visited France in 2018 could cross 8 lakh figure: Envoy
The number of Indian tourists, who had visited France in 2018, could cross the 8 lakh figure, French envoy Alexandre Ziegler said Thursday. In 2017, France received a staggering 89 million visitors, with preliminary figures for 2018 indicating over 90 million visitors, Ziegler said. "Over 700,000 (7 lakh) Indian tourists visited France in 2017 - twice the number as compared to 2014. In 2018, this figure should cross 8 lakh," he said. "I believe this is just the beginning of a trend. Over the past five years, Indian visa applications to France registered a 180 per cent increase, a striking upsurge demonstrating that France is ever growing in popularity," Ziegler said. He said in 2018, the number of visa applications grew by 15 per cent as compared to 2017, underpinned by a 43 per cent increase in applications from South India (Consulate of Puducherry). Goa govt mulls 'farm shacks' to promote agri-tourism in state
Goa Deputy Chief Minister Vijai Sardesai Wednesday said the state government was considering to create a model under which shacks could be raised on the agriculture fields, on the lines of beach shacks, to promote agri-tourism. Sardesai, who is also the agriculture minister, said efforts were being made to create a sustainable model for agri-tourism in the state. "I am trying to intentionally do a few things which I have talked about vehemently. I am trying to create a model of agri-tourism. If we can have a shack on the beach, then why not a shack in the agricultural field?" Sardesai asked. He was speaking to reporters after inaugurating an eight-day long Summer Agricultural Camp for students organised by the state agricuture department in association with an NGO - 'We for Fatorda'. Miscreants loot Rs 2.5 lakh in Hajipur, drag man for 100m on bike
A man was dragged behind a bike after two unidentified bike-borne miscreants snatched Rs 2.5 lakh from him in Hajipur on Tuesday.The man was looted while he was coming out from ICICI Bank here with the amount which was taken as loan, his wife said.The incident was captured in CCTV camera installed in the area. In the footage of the incident, it is seen that two miscreants on a motorcycle are speeding down the road with the man clinging onto the bike for about 100 metres."My husband was carrying the money taken as loan from the bank. The two men on the bike had tried to snatch the bag from him, but he did not let it go. As the robbers tried to speed away, he was dragged on the road. He has sustained injuries in the incident. Now, police are looking into the matter," the victim's wife Anju Kumari told media here.A case has been registered in the matter and investigation is underway.

India helps rebuild Monastery at Sindhupalchok District
The Chhyoiphel Kundeling Monastery, re-constructed with Indian grant, was inaugurated on Friday in Nepal's Sindhupalchok district, an official statement said. The Monastery was established in 1946 near the Nepal-China border and needed massive renovations. Buddhist scholar Shyalpa Tenzing Rinpoche inaugurated the Monastery in the Lisankhu village at a function, which was attended by Deputy Chief of Mission at the Indian Embassy, Ajay Kumar. The Indian government provided an assistance of 18.90 million Nepali Rupees for the re-construction project. "In addition to rebuilding the Monastery, the project also included additional infrastructure such as residences, kitchen and sanitation facilities," according to a press release issued by Indian Embassy here. The project was implemented by District Coordination Committee, Chautara which prepared architectural design, drawings and undertook supervision of the construction work.
