Baliyatra festival from tomorrow

The eight-day Baliyatra festival is all set to begin on the bank of river Mahanadi in front of the grand Barabati Fort here from Kartika Purnima day Friday. This year's festival will also have an expansion, "City Festival", coinciding with an extended inaugural ceremony of World Cup Hockey to be held in Bhubaneswar. "The World Cup inaugural ceremony will also be held at Barabati Stadium here on November 28. Musician A R Rahman and several cine stars from Mumbai and South India will perform in a night-long cultural programme, district information and public relation officer Ashok Sarangi said. The City Festival will end on December 2. A trade fair will also be held on this occasion. Indian tourist arrivals to Greece has more than doubled to 38,046 in the first nine months of the current calender year. Around 17,376 Indian tourists visited Greece in the same period of 2017, according to a data by Greece National Tourist Office (GNTO) and Athens International Airport. "Greece as a destination has gained momentum over the years and we are glad to witness the rising interest of Indians for Greece as a popular holiday destination across the country. Our approach is to target the captive audience across various age groups simply by appealing to every kind of travel need," said Konstantinos Tsegas, secretary general, GNTO. He said, GNTO has leveraged diverse platforms based on specific characteristics of the Indian market. 2 fast patrol vessels for CG launched

Two fast patrol vessels manufactured by Defence PSU Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) for Indian Coast Guard were launched Thursday. The vessels, named ICGS Amrit Kaur and ICGS Kamla Devi after freedom fighters, are the third and fourth in a series of five fast patrol vessels being built by GRSE for the Coast Guard, GRSE chairman cum managing director Rear Admiral V K Saxena said. The launch takes the number of ships and other vessels of the Coast Guard to 137, ICG (North-East) inspector general Rajan Bargotra told newspersons. The ships were launched by Veena Navarane, wife of Lt Gen M M Navarane, GOC-in-C, Eastern Command of the Army. The vessels are 50 metres long, 7.5 metres wide with a displacement of around 308 tons, he said. "These ships are designed for a maximum speed of 34 knots with an endurance of more than 1,500 nautical miles," the CMD said. This smart hotel in China lets you use WeChat to book room, check in, order breakfast

Given there is so much everyday dependency on own smartphones, China's biggest app WeChat decided to partner InterContinental to make a smartphone even more indispensable.The two companies have opened a new smart hotel in Shanghai where right from booking a room to checking in, you can use your smartphone as key cards, The Verge reported.The hotel is 88 feet underground, but it is well-connected to offer seamless internet services.Once a guest completes the reservation, they verify their identity at the hotel through facial recognition and collect their digital key card. The museum built around a secret annex in a canal-side house where Anne Frank hid from Nazis during World War II has been renovated to better tell the teenage Jewish diarist's tragic story to a new generation of visitors who may know little about the horrors of the Holocaust. Railways puts renovated heritage steam loco Azad WP 7200 into service

Bringing alive the magic of steam-hauled trains, the Indian Railways put into service its renovated heritage steam loco Azad WP 7200 for hauling the iconic tourist train, the Palace on Wheels, on a trip from Delhi Safdarjung station to Patel Nagar station on the Ring Railway circuit Wednesday. Railway Board Chairman Ashwani Lohani flagged off the steam-hauled luxury tourist train in the presence of senior officials of the board and the Northern Railways. WP 7200, also called Azad, was built in 1947 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works, Philadelphia, USA. The pride of the steam loco fleet, the bullet-nosed WP locomotives were the mainstay of broad gauge passenger train operations of the Indian Railways for a long time till 1995 when they were finally retired. Sitharaman inaugurates Manipur's mega Sangai festival

Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman inaugurated Manipur's annual Sangai tourism festival on Wednesday. The 10-day festival, the biggest of the state, will see various cultural troupes from different parts of the country, including Assam, Odisha and Uttar Pradesh; and countries like Thailand and South Korea, the organisers said. Guj's Statue of Unity could boost tourism in Maha border

The Maharashtra Government is devising a plan to promote tourism in border areas of the state that are close to the Statue of Unity in neighbouring Gujarat, state Tourism Minister Jaykumar Rawal said Tuesday. The Statue of Unity, a 182-metre high memorial to Sardar Patel, is the tallest statue in the world and is located on an islet in Kevadiya in Gujarat's Narmada district. He said the Statue of Unity had brought the region on the world map and more than two lakh people had visited the site since it was opened to public on November 1. He said it could help develop tourism in tribal villages in Maharashtra and better their economic condition. The minister said it would provide employment opportunities to the youth in Nandurbar and the Satpura region that lies in both states.
