IRCTC to offer 'vrat ka khana' during Navaratri

As the nine-day long festival to honour Goddess Durga is here, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) is offering special 'vrat ka kahan' as a part of its e-catering menu, to make the journey of the people comfortable.These special meals offered by the IRCTC will be available through selected restaurants and at hand-picked stations on the Indian Railways network.Till now, the facility is available at Nagpur, Ambala, Jaipur, Itarsi, Jhansi, Nasik, Ratlam, Daund, Mathura, Nizamuddin and Lucknow station.Items like Navaratri thali, sabudana khichdi, lassi, fruit chats can be pre-ordered through IRCTC's e-Catering website www.ecatering.irctc.co.in or 'Food-on-track' app.Orders can be placed at least two hours before scheduled journey time with a valid Passenger Name Record (PNR) number. Passengers may opt to pre-pay or pay the bill on delivery, based on their convenience.

Cabinet approves India-Romania MoU in field of tourism

The Union Cabinet on Wednesday gave its ex-post facto approval to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between India and Romania in the field of tourism.The MoU aims to expand bilateral cooperation in the tourism sector, exchange information and data related to tourism and encourage cooperation between tourism stakeholders including hotels and tour operators, encourage investment in the tourism and hospitality sectors.Exchange visits of tour operators/media /opinion makers for the promotion of two-way tourism, exchange experiences in the areas of promotion, marketing, destination development and management, foster bilateral cooperation through film tourism for promoting the two countries as attractive tourism destinations, and to promote safe, honourable and sustainable tourism.India and Romania have enjoyed a strong diplomatic and long economic relationship. IWAI to launch Ro-Ro service to Majuli Island in Assam

The Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) is set to lalunch a Roll on-Roll off (Ro-Ro) service tomorrow in Assam from Neamati to Manjuli island, the Ministry of Shipping said Wednesday. This service will reduce the road route distance of 423 km that trucks take from Neamati to Majuli Island via Tezpur Road Bridge to only 12.7 km with the use of river route. Majuli is one of the biggest riverine islands in the world located on river Brahmaputra and faces serious challenges of connectivity. It has 144 villages with a population of over 1,50,000. "Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) will be starting a new Roll on-Roll off (Ro-Ro) facility in collaboration with the Government of Assam to provide the much-needed connectivity for Majuli Island... Rlys offers 'vrat ka khana' as a part of its e-catering menu during Navratri

Railways will offer 'vrat ka khana' (food during fasting) as a part of its e-catering menu during the Navratri festival which started on Wednesday, IRCTC said. The Railways' catering arm said that keeping in mind the ritualistic fast observed by many during the festival, it has been decided to introduce them in its menu from Oct. 10 18. It consists of satvik diet like sabudana, sendha namak, kuttu ka atta, and certain vegetables. "This year IRCTC, in a bid to make train travel during this time of the year less of a hassle, is offering vrat ka khana' as a part of its e-catering menu," the IRCTC statement said. Shiv Sena demands closure of all meat shops in Gurugram during Navaratri days

The Shiv Sena has demanded closure of all meat shops in Gurugram during the days of Navaratri and has threatened to forcibly shut them down if they don't do it on their own. Locals claimed a group of Sena workers assembled at Palam Vihar on Wednesday and forcibly shutdown meat markets in Surat Nagar, Ashok Vihar, Sector 5 and 9, Pataudi Chowk, Jacobpura, Sadar Bazaar, Khandsa Anaj Mandi, Bus Stand, DLF area, Sohna and Sector 14. Majority of the meat shopkeepers were seen covering their shops from front end with blinders. However the Sena and other Hindu outfit workers threatened to close them down as well, they alleged. "We have requested and served notices to every meat selling outlet to shut shop during the days of Navaratri. This time we have not served notices to restaurants, like KFC and other chains, as them serving chicken cannot be seen in the open", Shiv Sena Gurgaon in-charge Sanjay Thakral told PTI. Rashi Eco tourism Ltd to come out with IPO

Hospitality firm Rashi Eco Tourism ltd Wednesday said it would come out with an IPO in next three years to raise funds to take up eco-luxury projects in neighbouring states. "In next three years, we are eyeing to offer initial public offering (IPO). With this, we will raise Rs 100 crore to take up eco-luxury projects in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Tamil Nadu," Rashi Eco Tourism Chief Spokesperson M J Srikant told reporters here. At present, the company has five eco-luxury projects and plans to set up ten more concept-based flagship attractionsin Karnataka, he said. Of the ten proposed properties, five would be owned by Rashi Eco Tourism Limited, he added. Earlier, the company had launched Siri Nature Roosts, an ensemble of unique nature blended luxury cottages. The firm had created the award winning 'Guhantara' in the city in 2008, which it claimed was the first cave resort in India. Ancient Mayans produced, traded salt: Study

Salt may have been a valuable commodity for the Mayans, say scientists who found that the ancient civilisation produced, stored and traded the mineral over 1,000 years ago. Stone tools found at a site called the Paynes Creek Salt Works in Belize shows that not only were the Maya making salt in large quantities, but they were salting fish and meat to meet dietary needs and producing a commodity that could be stored and traded. As ancient civilisations evolved from hunters and gatherers to agrarian societies, it has not been clear how people acquired salt that is a biological necessity. "Since we found virtually no fish or other animal bones during our sea-floor survey or excavations, I was surprised that the microscopic markings on the stone tools, which we call 'use-wear,' showed that most of the tools were used to cut or scrape fish or meat," said Heather McKillop, a professor at Louisiana State University in the US. 'No Road No Vote': Natives of Pura village threaten to boycott polls

Residents of Pura village of the district on Sunday staged a protest and threatened to boycott all upcoming elections demanding construction of roads in the village.The protestors took to the streets with placards reading 'No Road No Vote'. Builder poses as additional CS to CM, dupes five-star hotel

A Mumbai-based businessman was arrested Saturday for allegedly impersonating an additional chief secretary to Maharashtra Chief Minister and cheating the management of a five-star hotel here of Rs 95,000 by not paying the bills, the police said. The accused has been identified as Aditya Ashok Jogani (39), a resident of Napean Sea Road, an upmarket neighbourhood of Malabar Hill in south Mumbai. An FIR was also registered against five friends of Jogani for staying in the hotel as his guests, a Koregaon Park police station official said. They are yet to be arrested. The incident dates back to January this year when Jogani called up the hotel reception and introduced himself as Praveen Pardeshi, an additional chief secretary to the chief minister, he said. Jogani allegedly told the hotel management that around six people, including him, would be coming to stay in the hotel.
