Odisha Travel Bazar opens with domestic and fgn tour operators

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has inaugurated the second edition of Odisha Travel Bazar to boost tourism of the state. Opening the event Friday, Patnaik said tourist arrival increased at a rate of 9 per cent per annum and the trend was continuing in the state. New tourism products like ethnic tourism, Eco tourism and Buddhist tourism were helping the state to attract more tourists every year. On air connectivity of the state, Patnaik said "in near future Air Asia will provide connectivity to international destinations. 80 hospitalized after consuming pork at wedding feast

At least 80 people fell sick on Friday after consuming pork at a wedding feast in Thoubal district, about 30 kms away from the state capital, officials said. The villagers of Waithou Chiru had consumed pork last night at the feast following which they complained of vomiting and dysentery. All of them were admitted to Thoubal District Hospital on Friday afternoon. Doctors said the cause of their sickness was food poisoning.

Delhi govt issues letters of acceptance to vendors for procurement of 500 buses

Delhi government Friday issued 'letters of acceptance' to vendors for procurement of 500 standard-floor CNG buses equipped with hydraulic lifts for the differently-abled, a senior official said. The new, standard-floor buses will join the fleet of Cluster Scheme buses operated by Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System (DIMTS). "Letters of acceptance awarded to successful bidders of two clusters for a total of 500 standard-floor CNG buses as per permission granted by Hon'ble Supreme Court. They shall be fitted with hydraulic lifts for disabled passengers. Long drought ending (sic)" Secretary (Transport) Varsha Joshi tweeted. The buses are likely to hit the city roads in next six months, she told PTI. "As per tender conditions 25 per cent in six months but we will ensure we get some much faster," she said. The officer also said that the vendors will be paid for fitment of hydraulic lifts to the buses and modalities of it will be finalised for seeking approval of the Delhi cabinet ..

Tendulkar meets Maha Guv to promote 'Mission Young & Fit

Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar called on Maharashtra Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao and proposed launching 'Mission Young and Fit India' across universities in the state. Thomas Cook India to acquire 24% stake in TravelJunkie

Travel services firm Thomas Cook India Friday said its board has agreed to acquire 24 per cent stake in travel technology startup TravelJunkie Solutions through its wholly owned subsidiary TC Tours, for an undisclosed sum. This is the company's first investment in the travel technology space, it said in a release. "The board of Thomas Cook India has approved the acquisition of a 24 per cent strategic stake in TravelJunkie Solutions Private Limited, a Mumbai based travel tech startup via its wholly owned subsidiary TC Tours," the company said. The startup has developed a chat-based mobile application Ithaka that serves free individual travellers that recommends authentic local experiences for different destinations and helps plan their trip and book activities, hotels and flights. CM Rawat flags off mountaineering expedition -- 'Mission Atal'

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat Thursday flagged off a joint mountaineering expedition to two virgin peaks in Gangotri glacier, which are to be named after former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The joint expedition -- "Mission Atal" -- being undertaken by teams from the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Council and the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM) will scale two peaks located at 6,557 and 6,566 metres in Gangotri glacier in 25-30 days, after which they would be named Atal-1 and Atal-2, an official release here said. These peaks have never been climbed by mountaineers so far, it said. The chief minister said climbing two virgin peaks in Gangotri glacier will be an experience full of adventure and thrill. 'Dandi Salt Challenge 2019' to revive memories of Mahatma

The 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi would be celebrated next year in Gujarat with the "Dandi Salt Challenge" which includes holding of endurance events like cycling and a marathon run on the famous 400-km Dandi March route. March 2019 also marks the 89th anniversary of the Dandi Satyagraha, an act of non-violent civil disobedience in colonial India led by Gandhi. Gandhi had undertaken a 26-day march from March 12, 1930 to April 6, 1930 as a direct action campaign of tax resistance and non-violent protest against the British salt monopoly. First foreign chartered flight of season lands in Goa

The first chartered flight from Russia landed in Goa Thursday, marking the beginning of tourist season this year. The coastal state witnesses maximum footfalls in the period between October to April-May every year. Number of Chinese outbound tourists to touch 157 million by 2020: Report

The number of Chinese tourists visiting abroad every year is expected to touch 157 million by 2020, the largest in the world, an official think tank said. China's outbound tourism market is estimated to increase by five per cent annually on average in the coming years, bringing the number of outbound tourists to 157 million in 2020, state-run Xinhua news agency quoted the China Tourism Academy, the think tank under the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Many countries, including India, are wooing Chinese tourists. Over 144 million Chinese tourists travelled to different parts of the world last year with an estimated spending over USD 115 billion.
