China to organise veg fest, over 10,000 people expected to attend: report
China is all set to hold the first-ever vegan festival here in which over 10,000 visitors, especially the young people, are expected to participate, according to a media report Saturday. A pursuit for more healthy, eco-friendly and trendy lifestyles has prompted many people in China, especially the younger generation, to go vegan, the state-run Xinhua news agency reported. Around 10,000 people are expected to take part in the two-day long veg fest -- the Pop Plant-based Festival -- in Beijing, in which a plant-based food fair, outdoor fitness activities and live music, will feature, the organisers said. The event aims to reflect the growing popularity of veganism in China, and to offer an alternative way to celebrate the holidays in a healthy way, they added. Mountaineer Satyarup scales Mount Damavand in Iran
Having scaled the Mount Everest and South Pole, mountaineer Satyarup Siddhanta created history by climbing Asia's highest volcanic peak, Mount Damavand in Iran. Mount Damavand is the highest peak in Iran. Satyarup was accompanied by Mousumi Khatua and Bhaswati Chatterjee, who left for the expedition on September 6. On September 10 morning, around 6 am, the trio started their expedition. Chatterjee decided to stay back at Camp 3, after advancing till 4600 metres. Mount Damavand is known for its sulphur discharge near its peak which can cause irreparable damage if exposed for a longer duration. The team had to scale the summit within a very short span of time to avoid the sulphur exposure. Satyarup has not only climbed Mount Everest, but also skied the last degree to the South Pole, covering a distance of 111 km over six days, carrying a 50kg sledge. Jet Airways offers options for lowest fares
Passengers travelling in economy class of Jet Airways flights can choose a travel plan with or without meals, according to the airline. The full service carrier has introduced "unbundled fares in 'Light' and 'Deal' categories" for domestic flights. In a release, the airline said it is introducing "options for lowest fare categories, enabling guests to choose between flight plus meal or flight only option". "From September 25, 2018, guests travelling in economy and booking 'Light/ Deal' fares for travel from September 28, 2018 on its flights within India, will not only be able to avail competitive low fares but have the opportunity to buy meals from a specially curated on-board menu," the release said. The airline would continue offering complimentary meals across 'Light/ Deal' fare choices who have made bookings before September 24. SR successfully conducts trial run of 'road railer'
In a step up for cargo transportation in the country, the Southern Railway has successfully conducted a trial run of a 'road railer' which will facilitate 'door-to-door' transportation of goods. The trial was conducted between Melpakkam and Katpadi section of Chennai division Wednesday. Fitted with wheels akin to normal trucks, road railers carrying cargo will travel by road till it reaches a railway goods terminal, a SR release said Thursday. The road railer units will then be directly coupled with railway wagons, eliminating the task of loading and unloading of consignments. After reaching the receiving terminal by rail, the units containing the goods would be decoupled and attached to trucks to be delivered to customers by road. A private company, Kirloskar Pneumatic Co Ltd (KPCL), has tied up with Southern Railway to provide such specially-designed road railers. SR would operate and maintain them. Governor requests Centre to promote tourism in Arunachal
Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig (Retd) Dr B D Mishra Thursday requested the Centre to work out specific plans to promote tourism in the state. Black pepper edges up on scattered demand
Black pepper prices advanced by Rs 10 per kg at the wholesale kirana market in the national capital Thursday on the back of mild demand. However, other spices moved in a narrow range on little doing and settled at previous levels. Marketmen said some demand from stockists against limited arrivals from producing belts, mainly helped black pepper prices to trade higher. Black pepper edged up by Rs 10 to Rs 400-570 per kg. China arrests suspect for customer data leak at Accor partner
Shanghai police have arrested a man in connection with a data leak at NASDAQ-listed Chinese hotelier Huazhu Group after the suspect failed to sell the information online. The 30-year-old suspect had hacked and stolen user data from hotels under the Huazhu Group and tried to sell it on overseas websites, the police said in a statement late Wednesday. Huazhu, one of China's biggest hoteliers and the local partner of France-based AccorHotels, had alerted the police to reports in August that the company's internal data was being sold online. The Huazhu Group said in a statement to the New York stock exchange on Monday that "the suspect also attempted to blackmail Huazhu by leveraging public pressure, without success". The potentially-leaked data included guest membership information, personal IDs, check-in records, guest names, mobile numbers and emails. Singer Sukhwinder Singh rues poor condition of Shirdi road
Bollywood singer Sukhwinder Singh has requested the authorities to urgently repair the road from Ghoti to Shirdi in Nashik district of Maharashtra. Speaking to reporters here after visiting the famous Saibaba temple on Tuesday, Singh said because of potholes, the journey which should take one-and-a-half hours by car takes double that time. "Travelling from Ghoti to Shirdi was like undertaking a camel ride," he said, saying the road should be repaired urgently. "Earlier this road was like airport's runway. But now due to the poor condition, it takes at least three hours to reach here. It is said the road was damaged by rain, but then why the roads abroad are not damaged by rain?" he asked. Other roads in the region including Aurangabad to Shirdi via Puntamba are also full of potholes, he commented.

48 licences issued to promote adventure sports in Tehri lake: U'khand minister
Forty-eight licences have been issued to promote adventure sports in the Tehri lake and to give employment to local people, the Uttarakhand Assembly was told Tuesday. The Tehri Special Area Tourism Development Authority has issued these licences, state Tourism minister Satpal Maharaj told the Assembly in a written reply to a question by Dhanaulti MLA Pritam Singh Pawar. When asked why only 48 licences were issued so far, the minister attributed it to a ban imposed by the Uttarakhand High Court on white water river rafting and other adventure sports activities in the state in June this year. Now that the ban has been lifted, more licences will be issued to give a boost to adventure sports activities in the lake, including rafting and kayaking, he said. The high court lifted the ban on September 12 last week on the condition that adventure sports activities like river rafting are carried out strictly in accordance with the Uttarakhand River Rafting and Kayaking Rules, 2014. Air India and Air Tanzania had direct flights between the two countries but the operations were stopped in mid-1990s due to commercial reasons.
