Kerala ready to receive tourists in all major travel destinations: Tourism minister

The devastating floods in Kerala had left its thriving tourism industry in a state of disarray and shock, but 'God's own country' has bounced back with renewed vigour, state Tourism Minister Kadakampally Surendran said Monday. He said all the major tourist places in the southern state were back to business and ready to receive tourists from around the world. "Tourism is a major contributor to Kerala's economy and a significant source of earning foreign exchange. The floods left the industry in a state of disarray and shock, but it was only for a while. "Now it has bounced back into business with a renewed vigour, demonstrating its inherent resilience and determination to overcome the traumatic aftermath of the floods," Surendran said at a media interaction here. Tourism to drive Punjab's economy: Sidhu

Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu Monday said tourism will be the driving force behind Punjab's economic growth and the state government was striving to ensure that tourism contribute towards 20 per cent of the northern state's GDP. Rotten wheat found to be used in making flour at mill in Ludhiana

The Punjab Food and Drug Administration on Monday seized more than 2,000 quintals of rotten wheat, which was allegedly being used for making flour, in Ludhiana district. In a raid at a mill in Alamgir village, the team, assisted by dairy development officers, found that the damaged wheat, which had turned black and had been emitting foul smell, was being used for making wheat flour, an official said. The team took samples of wheat, flour, 'maida' and 'suji' for further investigation. The mill was allegedly being run without a mandatory Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) licence, the spokesperson added.

Morocco to open its first tourism office in India: Morocco Minister

Morocco would be soon opening its first tourism office in New Delhi, the country's tourism minister Mohammed Sajid said Monday. Morocco, which currently has Indian tourist footfall of around 15,000, aims to touch the 40,000-mark by 2019. "India is a very big country. However, there were low number of foreign tourists from India to Morocco in recent years. We have a lot of similarities with India in terms of culture and development," said Sajid. "Both countries have a very diverse tourist sector that is rooted in their civilisations. ITDC inks MoU with Moroccan Agency for Tourism Development

State-run hospitality company ITDC signed an MoU with the Moroccan Agency for Tourism Development (SMIT) on Monday, for strengthening cooperation in the tourism sector, a statement from the ministry said. India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) a PSU under the aegis of the Ministry of Tourism signed the MoU with the SMIT, an autonomous organisation under the Ministry of Tourism, Government of Kingdom of Morocco.
