A two-day convention to focus on preserving heritage properties while promoting heritage tourism will be held in Bharatpur on September 13 and 14, officials said on Monday. Organised by the Indian Heritage Hotels Association (IHHA), the convention on 'Revitalising India as a Heritage Destination' will witness national and international experts speak on preservation of heritage buildings, museums and promoting lesser-known destinations. A member of the Saudi royal family has reported the theft of hundreds of thousands of euros' worth of jewellery from her hotel room at the Ritz hotel in Paris, police sources said Monday. The person, who was not identified by name, said the theft -- which would be the second reported jewel heist at the five-star hotel on Place Vendome this year -- took place on Friday afternoon. Thousands of people thronged the streets of Maharashtra's Nagpur city on Monday to celebrate the Marbat festival.As per the tradition, the devotees took out a procession carrying effigies that represent evil forces. Notwithstanding the concerns raised by the Tourism Ministry on the recent hike in e-tourist visa fee, it is unlikely to be reviewed soon as it has been fixed on the basis of reciprocity with other countries, officials said Monday. Union Tourism Minister K J Alphons has written to Home Minister Rajnath Singh requesting him to review the fee hike for the e-tourist visa. The issue was discussed at a high-level meeting, chaired by Cabinet Secretary P K Sinha, where the representatives of the Ministry of External Affairs have conveyed that the visa fees are decided on the basis of reciprocity and the new fee structure is reasonable, a home ministry official privy to the development said, indicating that there may not be a review soon.
