Several roads in the national capital will be closed for the public tomorrow in view of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's funeral, the Delhi Traffic Police said today. Vajpayee's last rites will be performed at the Rashtriya Smriti Sthal here at 4 pm tomorrow. Some of the roads that will be closed from 8 am tomorrow are Krishna Menon Marg, Sunehri Bagh Road, Tughlak Road,Akbar Road,Tees January Marg, Man Singh Road,Bhagwan Dass Road, Shahjahan Road andSikandara Road. The Madras High Court today observed that mere granting of awards to honour persons for their contribution to an industry would not make sense, if no helping hand is extended to their kin. Justice R Mahadevan made the observation on a petition by Punniavathi, wife of late comedian Kumarimuthu, seeking to restrain the authorities from evicting her from the house allotted to her husband, who was a Kalaimamani awardee. The petitioner submitted that the Tamil Nadu government had allotted a house in Nandanam here to Kumarimuthu under discretionary quota in 2001, honoring his contribution as comedian, to the Tamil film industry. However, after he died in 2016, the petitioner claimed that on October 24, 2016 the housing and urban development department authorities had issued a notice to her seeking an explanation as to why the allotment should not be cancelled since the original allottee has died. Five police personnel were injured today when their jeep was hit from behind by a bus on the outskirts of the city. The mishap took place in Kanti police station area near Paharpur village where Assistant Sub Inspector Ashok Kumar was leading a patrol party which included four constables, one of whom was driving the jeep. Kanti SHO Sone Lal Prasad said the jeep had stopped behind a stationary truck and the policemen were about to alight for checking when the speeding bus rammed into their vehicle from behind, leaving all the occupants injured. The bus sped away after hitting the police vehicle, the SHO said adding that all the injured policemen have been admitted to a nearby private hospital where the condition of two is stated to be critical. Efforts were on to trace the erring bus driver.
