The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved a proposal to set up the National Centre of Excellence (NCoE) for Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics and Extended Reality (AVGC-XR) on lines of the IITs and IIMs to anchor the animation ecosystem in the country. IIT-Delhi sets up 6-member committee to probe fire incidents in buses

IIT-Delhi experts will enquire the recent incidents of bus fires and have recommended the names of six people who will serve as members of the committee, an official statement said. The recommendation of the names of the experts came in the aftermath of directions from Delhi Minister Kailash Gahlot to the Transport Department to constitute a committee to enquire into the incidents of fire in buses. The committee will be chaired by Professor Anjan Ray, Department of Mechanical Engineering, and comprise experts from multiple departments, including Mechanical, Electrical, and Chemical Engineering, as well as the Centre for Automotive Research, the statement read. The curriculum of many engineering colleges and IITs needs to be totally reoriented and restructured to align with the present demand, G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant said. While speaking at a three-day India Global Innovation Connect (IGIC) 2024 event in Bengaluru, Kant said there is an urgent need to bridge the gap between industry demands and the available talent pool and ramp up the skilled engineers pool in India, particularly in areas where there is a high demand, such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science, and cybersecurity. IIT-Guwahati student on way to join Isis detained in Assam, says police

An IIT-Guwahati student who had allegedly pledged allegiance to ISIS and was travelling to join the terror group was detained at Hajo on Saturday evening, police said. The student was nabbed four days after the ISIS India head Haris Farooqi alias Harish Ajmal Farukhi and his associate Anurag Singh alias Rehan were arrested in Dhubri district after they had crossed over from Bangladesh. In a boost to the education sector, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate campuses of three IIMs -- Jammu, Bodh Gaya and Visakhapatnam -- and lay the foundation stone of several projects worth over Rs 13,000 crore on Tuesday.
