India's lowest Test score on home soil is 46 against New Zealand in Bengaluru. India was bundled out on 36 against by Australia in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at Adelaide in 2020
The state-of-the-art drainage system was introduced in Bengaluru in 2017 and can prepare the ground in just 15 minutes after the rain stops
Top officials of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), including chairman Richard Thompson, have suggested that staging the Champions Trophy without powerhouse India is not an option and there are "contingencies available" if Rohit Sharma's team doesn't travel to host country Pakistan. India have not played in Pakistan since 2008 due to the tense relations between the two countries and their travel to the South Asian nation is solely dependent on government clearance. With the government unlikely to give the BCCI permission to send the team to Lahore, the Champions Trophy in a hybrid model seems the most likely option. Like the Asia Cup last year, India can play their matches in a third country while the other games can be staged in Pakistan. The tournament will be held in February-March. "It would not be in cricket's interests for India not to be playing in the Champions Trophy," Thompson, who is in Pakistan alongside ECB CEO Richard Gould, was quoted as saying by ...
Yashasvi Jaiswal was oblivious to the cheers of a handful of spectators as he walked across a soaked M Chinnaswamy Stadium turf on Wednesday, chatting intensely with assistant coach Abhishek Nayar. There was no pressing demand for him to spend an hour at indoor nets as rain held up the first day's play of the opening Test between India and New Zealand. After all, he is going through a roseate phase in Test cricket for over a year now. But that deep caring for his craft and a focused mind will come handy when Jaiswal crosses over to Australia next month for the biggest challenge yet in his fledgling career, feels his childhood coach Jwala Singh. "At this level, it is more about how you handle pressure. You can always work on technique, but if you don't have the right attitude and mindset then you will end up as a failure. But fortunately, Yashasvi has a mature head on his shoulder," Jwala told PTI when he was informed about skipper Rohit Sharma's high evaluation of his younger ...

In reply, New Zealand started strong, with skipper Tom Latham (15) and opener Devon Conway (91) adding 67 runs for the first wicket before the former was trapped in front of the wicket by Kuldeep
It's always special to return to the place where it all began and senior India batter KL Rahul is feeling the same as he takes guard one more time at the hallowed Chinnaswamy Stadium here for India's first Test against New Zealand beginning Wednesday. Rahul cut his teeth at the very same venue as a 11-year-old boy and he is now one of India's key batters. "It's always special for me to come back here, to your home ground, the place where you grew up and played all your cricket," Rahul said in a video posted by the BCCI on its social media handle. "The first match when I played here was when I was 11 and half years old. I am 32 now and so a lot has changed. But the feeling of an 11-year-old boy who came here first time, played a game, that feeling has not changed, I still remember it so many years later." Rahul is set to play his third Test here. He scored 90 and 51 as an opener in India's 75-run win against Australia in March 2017 and made 54 as No. 3 batter in the team's innings a

Govt reportedly views S Jaishankar's visit, the first by an Indian foreign minister to Pakistan in nearly nine years, as a positive development
India skipper Rohit Sharma on Tuesday vindicated Jasprit Bumrah's promotion as the vice-captain for the three-Test series against New Zealand, terming the lead pacer as an integral part of the leadership group who has a lot of "understanding" of the game. Bumrah's elevation to vice-captaincy for the Test series, beginning here on Wednesday, came as a bit of surprise as India did not have a deputy to Rohit in the recent series against Bangladesh. The decision has been viewed as a precursor to Bumrah stepping in as India's skipper during the tour to Australia. PTI had reported on October 10 that Rohit is set to miss at least one Test Down Under due to personal reasons. Look, Bumrah has played a lot of cricket. I've played a lot of cricket with him. He understands the game pretty well. He's got a good head on his shoulder. When you talk to him, he understands the game, Rohit told reporters during his pre-match press meet after rain hampered India's training session. Tactically, I can
Led by Tom Latham, New Zealand will be hoping to get their first away Test series win in three years. However, they are up against a formidable Indian side, who haven't lost at home since 2012.
Having been undefeated in Tests at home since 2012, India will go into the match with a lot of confidence. On the other hand, the Kiwis have not won an away Test series in 3 years.
While misfields and dropped catches have been a common sight with the Women in Blue recently, the teams were automatically given the edge, which eventually cost India the matches as well.
IND vs NZ 1st Test Day 1 HIGHLIGHTS: The day's play has finally been called off due to heavy rain in Bengaluru at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Former India captain Mithali Raj on Tuesday attributed the national team's underwhelming performance in the Women's T20 World Cup to lack of growth across departments over the past three years. It was the first time under Harmanpreet Kaur's long captaincy tenure that India failed to qualify for the knockouts of the ICC showpiece, extending the team's title-less run in world events and putting serious question marks over her future as skipper. Speaking to PTI from Dubai, Mithali said the team's downfall was a result of not getting used to the conditions in the UAE quick enough, lack of role clarity in the batting department, untested bench strength, and below-par fielding. Excerpts from the interview: Q. How wold you assess India's performance in the tournament? A. If I talk about the Australia game, it was a match to win. I thought at some point we had a chance but it seemed like we are following the same template against Australia. Taking the match deep but falling short eventual
With heavy rains in the morning not allowing both sets of players to train just a day ahead of the 1st Test, the weather forecasts have predicted that rain could play spoilsport on Day 1 of the match.
Uncapped bowler Jacob Duffy has been named as his replacement and will fly out to the subcontinent for the 1st Test in Bengaluru.
Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill, the torchbearers of transition, will have to be India's driving force in their quest to lord over an unsettled New Zealand in a three-Test series, beginning here with the first match here on Wednesday. The baton has not been completely passed, but Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are certainly running their last lap and these two young superstars will have to show that they can carry forward the legacy of the titans. The signs, so far, are bright. Since a productive series against England earlier this year, Gill is now more familiar and comfortable with the rigours of Test cricket. His last 10 innings contain three hundreds and two fifties, while Jaiswal's last eight outings in Test cricket feature a 214 and five fifties. Those numbers are not to be scoffed at. But at the same time, it is important for them to build on the foundation through this series against the Kiwis, a precursor to the much tougher journey to Australia next month. Gill seemed to
Rachin Ravindra will carry along with him that soothing home ground' feeling when the New Zealand top-order batter steps on to the field here on Wednesday for the first Test against India. After all, his familial roots are firmly entrenched in Bengaluru. His parents Ravi Krishnamurthy and Deepa hail from the city, while his grandparents T. Balakrishna Adiga, a noted educationist, and Poornima still stay here, and a cosy family get together ahead of the match is on cards too. It's something different about playing a Test match. You're here for five days and it's a tradition, you know, Test cricket's the pinnacle. I guess it makes it extra significant because of the family connection, said Ravindra. Ravi, his father, has come down from Wellington to watch his son playing Test cricket in a city where he spent his formative years and played club cricket. There'll be a bunch of them in the crowd and I know Dad will be here watching. So those moments, you know, you pinch yourself on the
