IND Women vs BAN: Skipper Harmanpreet, spinners star in easy win in 1st T20

Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur started the new international season with a smashing half-century as the Indian women's team cantered to a seven-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the opening T20 International here on Sunday. Opting to bowl, the Indian spinners used the conditions to their advantage and restricted Bangladesh to a meagre 114 for 5. In reply, Harmanpreet (54 not out 35 balls) and her deputy Smriti Mandhana (38 off 34 balls) added 70 runs for the third wicket to chase down the target in just 16.2 overs. The skipper hit six boundaries and two sixes and made best use of the two reprieves that she got off left-arm spinner Nahida Akter's bowling. Mandhana was the pace-setter for India as she hit some delectable boundaries, five of them in all, including a rasping square cut off seamer Marufa Akter and an inside out lofted cover-drive. They were shots out of top drawer. This was after the Indian bowlers set it up perfectly for the batters, who had to hardly break a sweat while ..

I don't like to change my aggressive batting style says Prithvi Shaw

After a bright start to his career, Prithvi Shaw has now slipped down the India pecking order but the Mumbai youngster on Saturday said he is banking on his natural "aggressive" game to score runs and earn his place back in the national side. Shaw last appeared for India in a T20I match against Sri Lanka at Colombo in July 2021. "Personally, I feel I don't have to change my game, but a little smarter than what I am. I can't bat like Pujara sir bats or Pujara sir can't bat like me. "So, what I am trying to do are those things that have brought me here till, for example, the aggressive batting, I don't like to change that," said Shaw after West Zone's Duleep Trophy semifinal against Central Zone at Alur. Shaw said he was looking to play as many games as possible at this stage of his career. The 23-year-old said every run would be very important for him in his endeavour to make a comeback. "I think whichever game for me right now is as important as anything. Even if I'm playing Dule

India vs Bangladesh: Harmanpreet Kaur and Co look to shake off the rust

The Indian women's cricket team will be expecting the fresh faces to grab the opportunity with both hands and finishers to flourish in the three-match T20 series against Bangladesh beginning here on Sunday, its first international assignment in four months. The T20 series will be followed by three ODIs beginning July 16. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side was last in action at the T20 World Cup in South Africa where it endured a narrow loss to Australia in the knockout phase. In an era where most male cricketers live out of a suitcase due to a relentless schedule, the members of the Indian women's team has had a lot of time to reflect and work on their game. The last competitive event for the Indian players was the inaugural Women's Premier League in March. India, who now have all the resources at their disposal, have not been able to take their game to the next level and match the mighty Australia on a regular basis. The team needs to improve on various aspects including fitness, bow

It was in the deep hours of Wednesday night Namboori Tilak Varma shared the news of his India selection to his parents, Nagaraju and Gayatri Devi, over a video call. It was a pleasant culmination of the dream they were cherishing since Tilak started his cricketing journey from the humble surroundings of Legala Cricket Academy in Lingampally, Hyderabad. On Wednesday, the 20-year-old stylish Hyderabad left-hander was drafted into the India T20I side for the series against West Indies. It may be a coincidence that the man of the mom

IND vs PAK is not be all and end of ODI World Cup 2023: Mickey Arthur

Pakistan's marquee October 15 clash against arch-rivals India in Ahmedabad might be huge from perspective of fans on both sides of the border but it is certainly not the "be all and end all" from cricketing point of view, reckons Team Director and head coach Mickey Arthur. Arthur understands the hype surrounding the clash but for him, it will be like any other game where one would gain or lose two points. "I don't think Pakistan and India is the be all of the World Cup," Arthur told a Pakistani YouTube channel 'Cricket Baaz'. "From a fan's perspective, from the viewpoint of the emotions and relations between the two countries, one can understand the interest it generates and emotions that go with it. But from a cricket point of view I think it will be about doing well against all teams if you want to win the World Cup," the South African added. Arthur was intent on playing down the pressure quotient and in fact has already started the mental games stating that pressure would be on

Have to keep things simple, maintain discipline: Jaiswal on India call-up

For Yashasvi Jaiswal, who got his maiden call-up in the India Test side on Friday when the BCCI announced the squad for the upcoming two-Test series in the West Indies, it was the culmination of a journey he had embarked on almost a decade ago. Having left his home in Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh, spending early teenage years at a tent at the Azad Maidan here and doing hard yards in Maximum City under his coach Jwala Singh, an India cap wasn't everything for the 21-year-old batting prodigy, but the only thing he aspired for. It was never about how he would get there but when. On Friday afternoon the news came, and there was pure joy and elation in equal measure for the stylish southpaw. The young batter told PTI in an exclusive interview that he was both nervous and excited over the possibility of his call-up to the India Test side, a dream that turned into reality after putting in splendid performances across formats in domestic cricket as well as in the IPL. "My father started crying .

ICC Test rankings: Rahane, Shardul rise as Ashwin maintains his top rank

India's comeback man Ajinkya Rahane on Wednesday climbed to the 37th position while Shardul Thakur rose to 94th among batters, even as Ravichandran Ashwin maintained his top spot among Test bowlers despite not featuring in the World Test Championship final. In a rare achievement, batters from Australia occupy the top three places in the rankings as Steve Smith and Travis Head joined top-ranked Marnus Labuschagne following their centuries in the WTC final win against India at The Oval. Despite India's 209-run loss in the marquee match, Rahane's scores of 89 and 46 helped him return to the rankings chart in 37th position while Shardul, who scored a half-century in the first innings, moved up six places. Dashing wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant, who is recovering following a car accident, remains the highest-ranked Indian at number 10 while skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are static on 12th and 13th spots respectively.
