The 5G network roll-out in India has been remarkable and the country is among the top three nations with the largest 5G installed base in the world, a top Nokia official said. Nokia President and CEO Pekka Lundmark was addressing an event during the inauguration of the company's 6G research lab in Bengaluru on Thursday. "5G roll-out in India is truly remarkable. This has been one of the fastest telecom network roll-outs ever and means India is now among the top three countries in the world that have the largest 5G installed base, with 5G download speeds beating those found in many advanced markets," Lundmark said. While there has been a decline in telecom gear shipment across major geographies, the 5G roll-out in India has been able to offset a dip in the business of Ericsson and Nokia. Nokia posted 333 per cent growth in India sales at about Rs 9,500 crore in the June quarter of 2023. Ericsson reported 74 per cent growth in net sales in the June 2023 quarter in "South East Asia,
Participation of foreign exhibitors, including China, has come down to around 25 per cent at the 16th edition of the Renewable Energy India Expo against an average of 45 per cent earlier. This year size of the Chinese contingent has shrunk due to visa issues amid the prevailing situation between India and China, Informa Markets India's senior group director Rajneesh Khattar said. China is the dominating player in solar energy worldwide, he noted. However, the void has been filled by home-grown domestic entrepreneurs with the expo being held in Greater Noida -- turning out to be the largest ever in terms of size and scale, he said. "Traditionally, over the years we have seen around 45 per cent international component (participation). This year, as everyone knows, Chinese companies and citizens have not been able to get visas due to the political situation between the two countries. So, because of this, we have seen the loss of China," Khattar told PTI. "However, home-grown Indian .

US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti will be leading an ambitious effort to deepen America's cooperation with India, including in defence and economic sectors, according to the White House. Garcetti, the former Mayor of Los Angeles, was officially sworn in as the US Ambassador to India on March 24 by Vice President Kamala Harris during a ceremonial event here. The US Senate confirmed 52-year-old Garcetti's nomination earlier last month, ending a protracted hiatus of over two years to fill the key diplomatic position. Garcetti's nomination was pending before the US Congress since July 2021 when he was nominated by President Joe Biden. The president has said, when we look at the relationship with India, it's one of the most consequential relationships that the United States has in the world. That still stands, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters at her daily news conference on Tuesday. Ambassador Garcetti will be leading an ambitious effort to deepen our ..
India has invited Brazilian companies to participate in its growing supply chain with a view to strengthen economic ties between the two countries, an official statement said on Thursday. Commerce Secretary Sunil Barthwal, who was in Brazil from October 1 to 4, also discussed ways to promote trade between the two countries. He was there for the sixth meeting of the India-Brazil Trade Monitoring Mechanism (TMM). Both sides extensively discussed matters related to bilateral trade and outlined a roadmap for its further enhancement, the commerce ministry said. The secretary "invited Brazilian industries to be part of the growing supply chain," it said. Barthwal was accompanied by a delegation of 20 business leaders. "The visit was happening in the backdrop of the sharp growth in the bilateral trade which had doubled over the last two years reaching USD 16 billion," it said, adding the two sides explored new opportunities for promoting trade. The secretary also held meetings with Bra

The United States has seen reports about the alleged ties of an Indian media outlet, which was raided by officials a day earlier, with China but cannot comment on the veracity of the claims, an official said. We have seen reports about this outlet's ties to the People's Republic of China, "but we can't comment yet on the veracity of those claims", State Department Spokesperson Vedant Patel told reporters at a news conference here. Separately, of course though, the US government strongly supports the robust role of the media globally, including social media, in a vibrant and free democracy, he said. We raise concerns on these matters with the Indian government, with countries around the world, through our diplomatic engagements that are at the core of our bilateral relationship. We have urged the Indian government and have done so not just with India, but other countries as well, about the importance of respecting the human rights of journalists, including freedom of expression both
