Global Biofuel Alliance a key step under India's leadership: President

President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday said the Global Biofuel Alliance launched during the recently concluded G20 summit is an important step taken under India's leadership after the International Solar Alliance, noting that new and renewable sources will help in making the country self-reliant in the energy sector. Murmu was addressing the Gujarat assembly here after inaugurating its National e-Vidhan Application (NeVA) project. She said the entire world is experiencing the negative effects of climate change and global warming, mainly caused by the use of fossil fuels. "To tackle this situation, G20 nations under India's presidency have agreed to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases by 43 per cent by 2030. This resolution by G20 nations is significant because the contribution of G20 nations in the total emission is nearly 80 per cent," Murmu said. "Use of fossil fuels plays a key role in polluting the environment. That is the reason why we should promote new and renewable energ

New Delhi declaration shows India can be champion of multilateralism: Kant

The New Delhi G20 declaration adopted by leaders has demonstrated India's great ability to be a champion of multilateralism and bring the world together on global developmental issues and conflicts like the Russia-Ukraine crisis, India's G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant said on Wednesday. The green development pact, a key part of the declaration, offers a great opportunity for the Indian automotive and components sector to become the global leader in electric and sustainable mobility, he said asking the industry to go all-electric while speaking here at the annual convention of Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA). "The New Delhi leaders' declaration that has come out is very, very inclusive, very ambitious. It has 83 paras in all. This is the first time that all 83 paras have 100 per cent consensus," Kant asserted. In the declaration, there is no 'reservation, brackets and chair's summary', he said adding all the 83 paras, including the eight paras on the ...

Indian law for protecting farmers can be model for entire world: Murmu

President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday said India's law on the protection of plant varieties and farmers' rights can be emulated for the entire world, as it gains importance amid the challenges of climate change. Addressing the first-ever global symposium on farmers' rights at the Pusa complex in the national capital, the President said India took the lead in bringing the Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers Rights Act (PPVFR) way back in 2001, which is aligned to the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture to protect farmers. Under the PPVFR Act, India provides a range of rights to farmers that include use, reuse, save, share and sell the unbranded seeds of a registered variety. Besides, farmers can register their own varieties which get protection, she said. The President said, "Such an Act can serve as an excellent model worthy of emulation for the entire world." This also gains importance amid challenges posed by climate change and also to ...

India-Middle East-Europe corridor to make supply chain more resilient: EEPC

The proposed 'India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor' announced during the just-concluded G20 Leaders' Summit in Delhi will prove to be a game-changer project and provide huge impetus to global trade, Engineering Exports Promotion Council India (EEPC India) said on Monday. The corridor will also make the "global supply chain more resilient", EEPC India chairman Arun Kumar Garodia said. The project seeks to connect India with Europe via the Middle East by sea and port. This will redefine the movement of goods and services across the continents as it will bring down logistics costs and ensure quicker delivery of shipments, Garodia said in a statement. For India's engineering exports sector, both the Middle East and Europe are key markets, and having transport infrastructure of this scale will greatly enhance its competitiveness globally, he said. Garodia also said the investment in the transformative project will greatly boost economic activities, create jobs, and most important
