Agricultural waste in India can be used for generating sustainable aviation fuel and make the country a hydrogen hub, a senior official of Honeywell India said on Wednesday. Honeywell India VP and General Manager for UOP and HPS Ashish Gaikwad said the technology is now available in the country that can benefit farmers by procuring agricultural waste from them, which they burn on the field that creates pollution. "It is my personal belief, India has the opportunity to become an energy hub for hydrogen. It can also become a hydrogen hub for SAF (sustainable aviation fuel). India is a large agricultural economy. It can produce a lot of agricultural waste that can become feedstock for producing SAF. India has witnessed a significant reduction in carbon emissions because of the Narendra Modi government's initiatives, Union Minister Mahendra Nath Pandey said on Wednesday. India and the UAE are looking at ways to increase trade in value-added gold and gold products, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said on Monday. A decision in this regard would be announced in due course, he said. He said that the UAE is one of the major suppliers of gold to India after Switzerland, and New Delhi would like to encourage that trade even further with the UAE. India has given certain duty concessions on the import of gold from the UAE under a free trade agreement, officially dubbed as CEPA (Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement) and it was implemented on May 1 last year. There were certain issues with regard to operationalising those concessions which have been sorted out now, he said. India has expressed interest in negotiating a free trade agreement (FTA) with Africa with an aim to boost economic ties between the two regions. This was stated by commerce and industry Minister Piyush Goyal during his interaction with fifteen ambassadors from several countries of the Africa region here on Thursday. "India is open to FTA negotiations bilaterally or individually with African countries or Africa as a whole," he said. India would act as a trusted partner to expand trade, commerce, business, investment and opportunities with Africa, he said. In such agreements, two or more trading partners either significantly reduce or eliminate customs duties on maximum number of goods traded between them. Besides, they ease norms for promoting trade in services and attract investments.
