Veteran actor Satish Shah cremated as Film and TV fraternity pays tributes

Family members, friends, and colleagues from the film and television industry bid a tearful adieu to veteran actor Satish Shah, who was cremated here on Sunday afternoon. Industry veteran Naseeruddin Shah, his wife Ratna Pathak Shah, who was also Satish Shah's co-star in "Sarabhai vs Sarabhai", other actors from the fan-favourite show, and members of the film fraternity attended his final farewell. Satish Shah passed away on Saturday at the age of 74 following a kidney ailment. He is survived by his wife, Madhu Shah, a designer. The mortal remains were brought to his home in Bandra (East) in an ambulance at around 11 am, and the same vehicle was later decked with marigold flowers and two photographs of the actor on the front and rear sides. The body was later transported to Pawan Hans Crematorium in Vile Parle for the last rites, which were conducted by Shah's personal assistant Ramesh Kadatala. Veteran Bollywood actor Satish Shah, known for his performances in films like "Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro", "Main Hoon Na" and hit TV show "Sarabhai vs Sarabhai", died on Saturday, his manager said. He was 74. Ramesh Kadatala, who has been Shah's personal assistant for over 30 years, said the actor passed away at his residence in Bandra east in the afternoon. "It seems he passed away from a heart attack, however we are awaiting the final reports from the doctor about the reason behind his death, Kadatala told PTI.

Veteran actor Asrani, who cemented a special place in the hearts of audiences through his portrayal of the eccentric jailer in Sholay and best known for his comic roles, passed away in a hospital here on Monday, his manager said. He was 84. The veteran of several films spanning over five decades, Govardhan Asrani, known popularly by mononym Asrani, was remembered for his characters in "Sholay", Namak Haram, and Guddi. The end came on Monday afternoon, four days after he was admitted to Bharatiya Arogya Nidhi Hospital in suburban Juhu. "He was a bit unwell. He was admitted following breathing issues. He passed away today at 3:00 PM. We were told by the doctors that water had accumulated in his lungs, Asrani's manager Babubhai Thiba told PTI. Asrani had acted in over 300 films in a career spanning over five decades. He has largely played character roles, and has garnered wide acclaim for his impeccable comic timing.
